[Question] Holiday crowds...DLR vs. WDW

So we usually go to WDW the week between Christmas and New Years (yes, we are absolutley nuts, we know!) We are planning on coming out to California this year! So is the crowd situation about the same at DLR that week? Also, we want to go to the Rose Parade on New Years Day. Anyone doen that before and have any tips? THANKS!

Crowd wise they are comparable! VERY CROWDED! Arrive early and make sure to get your hand stamp when park hopping or just leaving for a break.


As for the rose parade part of the experience is camping out over night on Colorado Blvd. Bring warm clothes as it is usually FREEZING and maybe an umbrella (sometimes it tends to rain on the parade)

I think we would opt to purchase the tickets in the stands?? We have little ones so camping out wouldn't be so easy!

AH! Well in that case that would be better! Still bring warm clothes though as it will be cold!

If you want to buy tickets for the grandstands I would do that ASAP. I just visited the ticketing site and there are only a few sections still available!

The dlr is crazy that time of year! But in general So Cal is a nice place to visit during the holidays. The local mountains get snow! (how I miss Santa's Village)

As for the Rose Parade whether you camp out or not, get there early and dress warm. The early morning temperature can easily be in the low 30s so be forewarned. To be honest, I used to live in San Marino and I never went to see the parade in person -- TV was always the best way without fighting maddening crowds early in the morning.

As an alternative, and one thing I often did was for two days after the parade they put the floats on display in one of the parks in Pasadena (I can't remember the name of the park). You may want to view them there in addition to seeing the parade. You can get up close and really admire the detail put into each float.

In any case have a nice vacation and have fun!

Thanks for the info....going to the parade is something my mother-in-law has ALWAYS wanted to do.....we will probably have to fight the cold

All of the tv cameras for the Rose Parade are on the corner of Colorado Blvd and Orange Grove Blvd, so that is a great spot to get a seat since you can be sure all the performers will be doing their thing instead of just marching along.

Both DL and the RP will be extremely fun experiences for you as long as you are prepaired for the crowds.

Tips for DL: Create a plan of attack, get there early, gather Fastpasses, blitz the rides that you care about going on early in the day to avoid long lines later. In general, try to get everything that you really want to do done within the first 2 hrs of the park opening and the rest of the day will be alot more tolerable.

Tips for the RP: Buy bleacher tickets if you can!! If you cannot get tickets and need to watch from the curb it is almost a given that you will need to camp out on the street the night before in order to secure parking for yourself and to get a decent viewing spot. The safest place to camp out is on Colorado Blvd in the downtown district anywhere between S. Pasadena Ave. and Garfield because the streets are well lit and it is where most people camp out. Also there are many open restaraunts and markets that you can go to on this strip that are just a few feet/blocks away. For added fun try to bring some silly string canisters, confetti, noisemakers, etc. since there is a tradition amongst rose parade campers to party-down for the newyears countdown in this particular part of the downtown Colorado Blvd area.

Definitely enjoy the Christmas decorations. Enjoy it's a small world holiday. I've never had the chance to experience that or the Christmas fireworks and snow show on the castle.
