  • [Rumor] And the next Disneyland President is.....

While there has been no official word about who Ed Grier's replacement will be, the current rumor going around the Disney corporate offices is that the field has been narrowed down to 3 people.

    1) Erin Wallace, the current the Senior VP of Operations at WDW. Her past positions for Disney include being the former VP of WDW's Magic Kingdom, the Senior VP of Operations Integration, VP of WDW Resort Operations, the General Manager of Animal Kingdom and the All-Star Resort, as well as the Director of WDW Industrial Engineering.

    2) Jim Lewis, the President of the Disney Vacation Club ,the Disney Wildlife Conservation Fund, and is on the board of directors for WDW's Minority Business Development. Jim's former position for Disney was being the Senior VP of Business Development and Public Affairs for WDW. Prior to Disney he worked for PepsiCo Inc, and was the Chairman for the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce.

    3) George Kalogridis, the Chief Operating Officer at Disneyland Paris. George has also been part of the opening team of WDW ,DCA, and Disneylands Downtown Disney. He's also the former VP of Florida Travel Operations.

If this rumor is true, my money is on George Kalogridis to become the new president. What are your thoughts?
    Growing older is manditory
    Growing up is however, optional

On paper it would seem that Kalogridis would be the best choice.

Whoever it turns out to be......hopefully, they can start bringing some of the magic back that has been sorely missing over the past few years.

I just hope that whoever they choose, we actually see them out in the park on occasion. We saw Ed what, like 5 times in 3 years?

Our revels now are ended. I would hate to see a WDW exec named President, as there might want to operate the Resort more like WDW.

A name not on the list but wouldn't be suprised if he was named DL President is Karl Holz. Remember he was CEO of Disneyland Paris and was earlier this year moved back into his former job as President of the Cruise Line. Why would you agree to leave the job as CEO in Paris to return to your old job as President on the Cruise Line?

If the rumor is true, it's a shame that again, no one with longtime Disneyland experience is on the short list to be president of Disneyland.

More generic Disney execs for another generic Disney exec position in what is fast becoming just another generic Disney Park.

Any one of these three choices will hopefully bring a much needed boost to re-establishing Disneyland as a leading tourist destination again. Their experience in managing world class international travel destinations would go to waste should Rasulo hire one of them but insists on keeping the same unbalanced locals to tourists ratio.

Hopefully the next president will assert themselves and take a stand on things. Each park is different and unique and has different and unique requirements. Managing them all from one central office (i.e. Rasulo) is a mistake. Fine, have someone to oversee things and coordinate, but the decisions should be made by the park presidents who know their parks best. Of course this means getting someone who KNOWS the parks.

The ratio at DL has always been heavily balanced towards locals. I wonder how you would change that? (I'm not being snarky, I really am curious)

thank you for the compliment but there are many who know the park far better. If you want my opinion I would say Jon Storebeck, with VP being Bob Rambo or Tom Leech... all 3 highly respected upper management who come from the "old school" of Disneyland.

It's always amazed and bothered me that Disneyland is forcefed policies because "that's how Florida does it". If it works, great, the other 85% of the time Florida uses our failed attempt as an example of why they shouldn't be doing it. Matt was great, may not have been "from Disneyland" but he respected the time those around him had put into the park. Ed from what I gathered has always been camera shy, preferring to let his behind the scenes work speak for itself. Sure I made fun of him for not being "out there" but at the same time he did a lot.

Being President of Disneyland is pretty big shoes to fill. There is a lot of prestige and a lot of history in that little park. While it is an administrative position it is also an inspirational one. People will ALWAYS compare you to Walt, regardless of how much time has passed. You will always come up short. But that doesn't mean you can't try. It doesn't mean you shouldn't take walks in the park, or visit on a hot summer weekend to see what it's like to be "average joe" trying to squeeze in Fantasmic and Fireworks without VIP Treatment. Matt made a game out of it... seeing how far he could make it into the park from the gate before he was "spotted" and "ratted out". He loved to stand in lines, and did his best to "blend in".

I agree Disneyland is a business and as such needs a business minded leader who isn't bogged down in day to day micromanaging, but there are ways to run a business that increase both confidence and profits. One of those ways is to take a look around and enjoy the park whenever there is a moment to do so... including the weekends. See it from the frontline, from the view of the Guest and from the view of those onstage CM's who do everything possible to make the magic. That isn't just a recommendation to the President, or to the VP... it's a recomendation to the senior levels of Management responsible for the park as a whole. Most individual business unit leaders already walk the park on a consistent basis. It's time the higher up's led by example (and Storebeck does just that which is why I would love to see him as President).

I just HATE the idea that some MORON from Florida is even being considered as President of Disneyland. WDW is a horrible mess right now and all those idiots in charge don't want to spend money to fix, repair and replace tired old worn out attractions or shows. It's so sad that anyone from WDW would even be considered. There is only one man that should come back but in order to do that Rasulo has to go and Iger, for some unkown reason is keeping him around. What hold does the man whom everone from John Lassiter to Bob Iger seems to hate have over Bob Iger? Get ride of him, bring back Matt and put him in Rasulo's place and then he can promote one of his people that is still at Disneyland into the President's job. I just can't beleive that Iger would want someone from WDW running Disneyland. It makes no sense at all.

Before they decide on someone, maybe they should break out and read or re-read The Disney Way.

Best advice ever. It should actually be a requirement of every management position at any level in the parks to spend at least 3 hours a week IN the park. Seeing it work, experiencing it. Seeing what does and doesn't work, finding ways to improve. No faster way to increase confidence in your leadership ability than to be seen actively experiencing and trying to understand the product you manage. It shows you care.
