  • [Fun] If MiceChat managed Disneyland...

So, if all of us, every last one of use on MiceChat, managed the Disneyland Resort, who would do what? How would be the President? Who would develop new attractions?

    HERE'S THE GAME:

Nominate another member (or yourself) of MC for the specific position (Specify!) you think they would be great at! Tell us who and why you think they'd be best. By the end, we will have a whole team!

*For the purpose of this game, the Disneyland Resort is sovereign, and no other Disney parks, departents, etc. exist. The highest ranking position is Resort President.
** Feel free to make up positions! Have fun!

I nominate LittleImagineer and FutureImagineer to develop new attractions! they seem to really be Disney fans and "get" Disneyland, the rides that should go there, they keep moving forward, and they're optimistic and I think would help improve Disneyland(when I say that I mean both parks, like the whole resort)

aashee. His sense of humor would bring a light, friendly atmosphere to the parks, and he's a family man!

edit: hmm, maybe DLR President? or perhaps Publicity lol.

I nominate Datameister and Nautilus to be the head modelmakers. (If I'm allowed to nominate myself for something, I'll do the music!)

I think we would quickly find out that it's harder than it looks to manage something that big..
On the other hand, the first thing I would do is point up to the People Mover and ask imagineering what the heck they're thinking!

                Re: If MiceChat managed Disneyland...

I guess that's meant to be an insult, but anyway, another attraction I would have is where kids produce their own 3-minute movie, choosing from a variety of costumes available, backdrops which could be changed at the push of a button, and 3 cameras (the oldest kid being the technical director choosing between shots). They get one rehearsal session in a pre-show area, then 3 minutes on the "soundstage" to produce their masterpiece, then they move to a theater where they view it on an HDTV. It's recorded in MPEG-2 on the fly as they perform it. After they watch it, if the parent wants to buy a copy of the DVD, that is available within a few minutes for $25. Otherwise it just gets erased. Kids learn basic performing and filmmaking skills. Kids like activity more than they like scenery and just watching stuff go by.
Also Boatopia; the Mary Poppins Theater with a live Mary Poppins show; Project Apollo; new Tomorrowland attractions based on WALL-E and 2001: A Space Odyssey; a walk-through Jungle Book attraction; Tijuana Taxi, a drive-through maze with electric vehicles; Marc Davis' Western River Expedition, beyond the berm northwest of Frontierland; a new Faraway Lands attraction in the it's a small world building, a re-working of Frontierland north of the river to include a National Parks ride-through including Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Everglades, Carlsbad Caverns and Hawaii Volcanoes; walk-through slove-a-mystery attraction based on the National Treasure films, museum dedicated to all Imagineers, and install photovoltaic panels on all building rooftops feasible to generate as much of the park's electricity from solar power. I would add trees to Tomorrowland and restart the PeopleMover with newer vehicles and landscape Disney's California Adventure to make it actually look like California's landscape (maritime, agricultural, mountain and desert zones).

I would nominate Steve deGaetano and a few others, I can't recall all of the usernames right now, but there are a few people here who remember the "real Disneyland" and would work to restore the park to its former state of glory.

                    Re: If MiceChat managed Disneyland...

I'd like to see the board of directors consist of Sediment, Darkbeer, Bob Weaver, Mycroft16, Steve DeGaetano, Mr Wiggins, and Techskip.

I'm sure I've missed a few, that's just all I can think of at the moment.

I haven't been around MC long enough to choose a president, or any other officer for that matter, but the above people seem to have a pretty good grasp of reality.

Certainly, there's be some disagreement within this group about the finer points of operation, but I'd bet they'd reach a consensus in fairly short order.

The main thing here would be a return to the original magical experience that DL was founded upon, rather than the present 'we're in it for the money' attitude. I think these people could pull that off, and still generate a handsome profit.

                    Rob

                        Re: If MiceChat managed Disneyland...

Whoever gains the power of managment positions at Disneyland needs to listen to Disneyland fans, not only here at Micechat but at the other Disney fan sites and to Disneyland guests themselves in the form of periodic customer surveys and a guest input program. The company that listens to and addresses the needs and wishes of its customers is the company that survives year and and year out, despite fluctuating economic conditions. This is a basic concept that not all businesses adhere to: the customer is the real boss, and if you pay attention to and address the customer's needs and wishes, you will survive in business.

What is also needed at Disneyland is a return to originality. At one time Disneyland and Imagineering were the originators of ideas and concepts in entertainment. Over the past 30 years there has been a shift towards making Disneyland simply reflect popular culture rather than originate it. Rides, attractions and shows are now basically derived from hit movies, even non-Disney movies, or are simply molded on rides and attractions from other parks, even non-Disney parks, and simply given a coat of Disney paint. This needs to be reversed and the park moved in the direction of total originality in concept and execution.

The Disney company already has Professonal Internships and the ImagiNations contest, but these should be expanded and emphasized to create a new culture of originality at the park and at the company's offices. Imagineers should be encouraged to "think outside the berm" figuratively if not literally, even re-thinking the concept of what an attraction is or can be. Creative individuals from any walk of life who are interested in joining and expanding a culture of originality should be encouraged to participate, even if for only a single project or for a specific internship period. This needs to be an ongoing project that never ends. Walt Disney famously said that Disneyland would never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world. In keeping with this, the company needs to continuosly promote and nurture a culture of imagination and originality, not only with students and aspiring Imagineers but with the public at large. Only by promiting and nurtuing a culture of originality, which then leads to new and original concepts, eliminating the need for concepts simply derived from the popular culture, will the company continue to honor Walt's wishes for the park.

And I'm not sure if there's anyone I can nominate. Does anyone have the buisness experiance to do this?

May I ask why? =o Wouldn't it be better if actual Disney fans ran the park? Just curious, I want to hear the different views and opinions from fellow fans

It's always better if someone who loves and cares about the place runs it, rather than someone who sees it as just a cash cow.

While it's good that fans can run the park, I think that no one here has the buisness experiance needed to run a theme park. Most people here appear to want the park as close to the original as possible. While I think that's great, I also think that the people at Disney know what people go to. I think the current execs know what they're doing and I would rather stick with them.

Wow, that's a broad untrue generalization about the people on this board. MiceChatters aren't ALL the same. There are at least 33,000 different opinions expressed on this board.

Of course MC'ers aren't all the same; it just so happens that there are more people that fit my "generalization" since there seems to be more threads devoted to "saving this" or "Bring back this", than threads that offer new ideas and discuss upcoming plans--without disapproval right off the bat.
