  • [Question] Why not extend Park Hours?

Anyone but me confused on why Disney does not just plan on extending the park hours for the first two weeks of "The Wonderful World of Color" for DCA, they don't even have to keep the rides open just the park so that the crowds for Wonderful World of Color are down, also the first couple of weekends should have DCA open later so they can have at least three showings.

I agree, I see them making more profits with the large amounts of people rushing to the park, to eat and shop.

Re: Why not extend Park Hours?

A main reason is sound and noise issues. Between the folks paying a lot of money to stay at tge Grand Californian, and the locals living just across the street (south west corner of Katella and West), Disney has to end the showings by about 10 PM.

They really have no option. They can do showings at 8 PM and 9:30 PM, but not much later than that without violatiing laws and causing major complaints from Hotel Guests.

I would say that we shouldnt jump to conclusions regarding park hours. Just because Al mentioned the sun going down being relative to World of Color doesn't mean that anyone knows when the park will close once it premieres.

After all, the Resort only has hours six weeks in advance, and HalloweenTime proves that they can be extended for several days at the last minute

Darkbeer- if noise is an issue, then why isn't Fantasmic affected by this, too?

Probably because the sound systems used aren't that loud. Not to mention the cannon on the columbia doesn't fire something that would make the shot really loud.

I mean the farthest you could hear the show is at the M&F Parking Structure and the DtD Parking Lot.

Zoning laws, same as the no Fireworks after 10 PM rule.

Fantasmic! is in section of the park that is not directly pointed to the street, in fact, the sound is pointed back towards NOS. There are also some grandfathering of the sound for Disneyland.

On the other hand, when Disney asked for permission to expand, a bunch of new laws were put on the books, such as the requirement to remove the Disneyland Hotel Signage from the top of the buildings and bring them back down to the ground, and more of a standard size and blends in.

And why Maliboomer has the Scream Shields, and that California Screamin' has the "half" tunnels that protect the South West corner of Katella and West from the sounds of screaming Coaster Riders.

Are you telling me that Disney, the largest employer in Orange County and probably the largest source of tax revenue in Anaheim can't swing a little extended hours thing for a couple of weeks??? Who can argue with the Disney machine? Anaheim wouldn't even exist without Disney.

Oh My GOSH! Do you know how many Council meetings I have been to in the last few years...

I can guaranteee you UniteHere, the local neighbors and the Union allies will be at the Council Meeting in force to just "disagree" with anything Disney wants to do....

And don't forget, the DVC owners, who have the closest rooms at the GCH to the new show. When they want to go to bed at 11 PM, but there is a 11 or 11:30 showing of WOC, don't you think they will bitch and moan about the Tens of Thousands of dollars they spent to have a high quality Extended Stay Hotel Suite that they can go to bed at a decent hour to take advantage of Magic Mornings (Early Entry) at Disneyland the next day????

Good points, Darkbeer. It will be interesting to see how much heat Disney takes on both sides as it dawns on AP holders that most of them will barely get a glimpse of this show during the first few weeks. If there are really 850,000 pass holders and you can't get into that seating area without a seating pass, and they only run two shows, at most, a night....

yeah, I know, there is always a large group of disgruntled to argue and protest about just about everything, even if it makes sense...I just assumed that the "Golden Rule" would apply with Disney.

I remember when they put a walmart in HB. There were protests going on for years even though a zillion people shop there now (including probably the protesters) and it brings in half a million dollars a year in revenue just for the school district. How could anyone argue about that, but they did

Has anyone seen a sales agreement for one of these units? I am sure it discloses something about the noise from the theme park. I mean, geez, you did buy a place next to a theme park and outdoor mall. What would you expect?

It will take forever to see it. Because just like the fireworks, many APers will go multiple times to post about a water jet not firing correctly or a light not shining in the right spot or something.

But also remember, DVC units are not just used by owners, if they are not being used by "points", Disney will rent them out to guests on a per night basis. No contracts, no arrangements.

And I think you can get away with a 9:30 PM show, but you get later than that, too much noise is being "leaked" out to both the Hotels (Don't forget the Paradise Pier has some direct sight lines) and the local neighbors.

Also, profit and loss, will it pay to keep the park open until 11 PM or Midnight? Will everyone be at the Amphitheater, and that the rides/attractions will be very underutilized as CM's are working attractions that are walk ons?

The cost of labor will more than likely be just too much for a park like DCA to stay open, especially if we are talking about primarily Annual passholders attending the late showing.

Do you think this will change as the expansion continues and guests have more attractions to experience during a day at DCA? (Even if they don't have another showing of WoC).

The cost of labor will more than likely be just too much for a park like DCA to stay open, especially if we are talking about primarily Annual passholders attending the late showing.
Kind of like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Splash, etc while Fantasmic and Fireworks are going on?
"And yes, we implore EVERYBODY to follow the park rules. Having off-ride footage is great, but any still photo's or video's taken ON the coasters at SFMM are strictly against the rules. They are there for your (and everybody's) safety." "Six Flags doesn't allow ANY loose articles on their coasters, and they don't allow video taping on their coasters. " BUT, " This is not true. Six Flags does not allow ANY On-Ride video or pictures on the rides. The ONLY way is if you get explicit permission from Park Management." ???
