Anyone but me confused on why Disney does not just plan on extending the park hours for the first two weeks of "The Wonderful World of Color" for DCA, they don't even have to keep the rides open just the park so that the crowds for Wonderful World of Color are down, also the first couple of weekends should have DCA open later so they can have at least three showings.

Re: Why not extend Park Hours?
A main reason is sound and noise issues. Between the folks paying a lot of money to stay at tge Grand Californian, and the locals living just across the street (south west corner of Katella and West), Disney has to end the showings by about 10 PM.
They really have no option. They can do showings at 8 PM and 9:30 PM, but not much later than that without violatiing laws and causing major complaints from Hotel Guests.Check out my Theme Park Photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com

Re: Why not extend Park Hours?
I would say that we shouldnt jump to conclusions regarding park hours. Just because Al mentioned the sun going down being relative to World of Color doesn't mean that anyone knows when the park will close once it premieres.
After all, the Resort only has hours six weeks in advance, and HalloweenTime proves that they can be extended for several days at the last minute

I mean the farthest you could hear the show is at the M&F Parking Structure and the DtD Parking Lot.

On the other hand, when Disney asked for permission to expand, a bunch of new laws were put on the books, such as the requirement to remove the Disneyland Hotel Signage from the top of the buildings and bring them back down to the ground, and more of a standard size and blends in.
And why Maliboomer has the Scream Shields, and that California Screamin' has the "half" tunnels that protect the South West corner of Katella and West from the sounds of screaming Coaster Riders.Check out my Theme Park Photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com

Re: Why not extend Park Hours?
Good points, Darkbeer. It will be interesting to see how much heat Disney takes on both sides as it dawns on AP holders that most of them will barely get a glimpse of this show during the first few weeks. If there are really 850,000 pass holders and you can't get into that seating area without a seating pass, and they only run two shows, at most, a night....

I remember when they put a walmart in HB. There were protests going on for years even though a zillion people shop there now (including probably the protesters) and it brings in half a million dollars a year in revenue just for the school district. How could anyone argue about that, but they didHidden Mickey - Tower of Terror

Re: Why not extend Park Hours?
But also remember, DVC units are not just used by owners, if they are not being used by "points", Disney will rent them out to guests on a per night basis. No contracts, no arrangements.
And I think you can get away with a 9:30 PM show, but you get later than that, too much noise is being "leaked" out to both the Hotels (Don't forget the Paradise Pier has some direct sight lines) and the local neighbors.
Also, profit and loss, will it pay to keep the park open until 11 PM or Midnight? Will everyone be at the Amphitheater, and that the rides/attractions will be very underutilized as CM's are working attractions that are walk ons?
The cost of labor will more than likely be just too much for a park like DCA to stay open, especially if we are talking about primarily Annual passholders attending the late showing.Check out my Theme Park Photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com

Do you think this will change as the expansion continues and guests have more attractions to experience during a day at DCA? (Even if they don't have another showing of WoC)."Happy Working Song" parody for DCA remodel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-TYESfNTP8&feature=plcp
