  • [Idea] Am I nuts? Is this a good idea?

First, let me explain... family of four... we saved hundreds of dollars on lunch and snacks over an eight-day stay. ($45-$60 per day x 8 = $360-$400)

Planning a 8 day trip to DLR in 4 months. Last time we went, we walked to food 4 less from the hotel and purchase granola/snack bars, couple loafs bread, peanut butter, jelly, couple bags of check mix, couple boxes of small ziplock bags and one box large ziplocks, case of bottled water. Took a cab back to the hotel due to the bulk/weight. $70 for groceries (If I remember right and $13 bucks plus $5 tip for the cab ride. So even a hundred dollars for 8 lunchs/snacks saves us a couple hundred buck, letting us splurge on dinners (Breakfast provided by hotel.

*So here's my idea, this time, I'm considering UPS'ing a box of the dry goods purchased at Costco to the hotel a week before so it will arrive a day or two before we arrive. Minus the water of course, shouldn't weigh more than 20-30lbs. (providing the hotel accomodate this request) and ask them to hold it in storage for us.

Since this time we are getting it to the hotel at around 9-10pm. Kinda late to go shopping. Would much rather hit the hot tub!!

    Your thoughts.

When we went to Walt Disney World, we actually packed a suitcase full of food that we could use...When all the food was gone we actually filled the suitcase with the souveniors we bought...

Sounds like a reasonable plan.....if you've the will power to avoid all those tasty treats and smells inside the park

Personally, I'd find it a sort of torture to have to pass up a churro cart for granola:lol:

There is a Costco not far from Disneyland, at 900 S. Harbor Boulevard, in Fullerton which is the city just north of Anaheim. You would just go north on Harbor Boulevard from Disneyland about 5 miles. Buying it all there would save you the shipping cost and worry about whether the hotel got it.

yeah... food 4 less wouldn't be a problem in itself, as opposed to Costco. food 4 less is only 1.2 miles away from hotel.

Was really trying to avoid the late night run to the store when we want to get rested for an 18hr run the next day (up at 6am, breakfast at 7, at the gates at a quarter to 8)

ive never come across a hotel that will do that but i also dont ask so maybe they will! but shipping it costs extra and if it were me i would just sacrifice hot tub time and go to the store when i got there since the plan would be to save money

We drive and I always pack a crap load of food. We eat the breakfast at the hotel and pack snacks and lunch in backpacks. We sometimes go back to bthe hotel and have dinner which I cook before we go and just reheat in the microwave. We save alot on food. We know what restraunts we can go to and maybe share a meal, like the Plaza's fried chicken(totally delish) and the ribs at Pilot's Grill, the lettace and tomatoes makes a great side salad too. People wonder how we were able to go so often, well, when you buy an annual pass you just pay for gas and hotel and save alot on food by packing it. Plus we usually stay at the Super 8 on DL drive. They are great there and very reasonable rates. Plus within walking distance.

Why not just have the store deliver it to your room?

This is why we rent a car when we go to WDW.

In our average 10 day stay we will generally make about 2 trips to Winn-Dixie or Super Target and stock up on breakfast/snack items and even get a dozen donuts from Dunkin'.

In the mornings our family doesn't tend to be TOO hungry so we'll have some OJ/Milk from the room and grab a couple of snack bars or banana/apple and have it on the way to the park.

Our big meal is generally lunch and then a light dinner. Go back to the room and you have late-night snack stuff (milk and cookies, etc). It works AWESOME!!!

If the hotel will hold it for you great, or you can perhaps find a local MiceChat friend that you can ship it to their place and they can bring it to you or even help you out on a store run. If I was more local I'd do it for ya.

The Vons idea isn't bad either, there is one about 2 miles from Disneyland on Chapman.
