  • [Question] That Disneyland Store Smell

Ever notice that very distinct smell that comes out of a lot of the stores (well, a lot of the buildings in general, actually)? I guess I say "stores" 'cause I especially notice it in the Emporium and other Main Street interiors, but it's everywhere. Anyway, it's this fresh, clean smell that I've never noticed anywhere but Disneyland. It seems to be pumped out in the air conditioning. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I've wondered if it isn't some sort of ozonation or ionization.

As opposed to the Disneyland Ride Smell - the somewhat hot rooms and stuffy air in most of the dark rides, the smell of bromine in the water in Pirates, the exhaust at Autopia, yet "it's a small world" is a miracle of air conditioning - why can't they have that on every ride? And get electric cars for Autopia already...

i know with the some of the places they pump out the smell of vinilla to get to people to come in and eat.

usually i compare that new car smell to the disneyland smell.

        disneyland is better.

The scent is called "Commerce" by the fine designer, Paul Pressler.

It's a lofty scent of hard-earned cash fleeing to uninspired, unoriginal merchandise.

          Toxic, eh?

I notice the "disneyland smell", too, but its not just in stores, it's pretty much from any classic building or ride, like walking through the castle, etc.

You guys should smell the walkway backstage behind Pizza Port. That's a smell for you; it makes Autopia seem like a field of daisies.

Oh yes! The steamy fog of running water, and old creeky boats and animatronics! It's a great smell, one of the best!

::inhale:: Oh that magical smell~ I had the honor of taking in a big whiff as I was gasping for air during the Half Marathon weekend. :yuck:

I'm trying to figure out if this "smell" is the same one as most of the dark rides? I cannot for the life of me place that smell or compare it to anything else. I love the musty "old" smell that comes with most of the rides or buildings. It's just so familiar that I find it likable.
