the current one in the castle is original one from walt's time recreated. There is a nice piece on the currect/original version on the sleeping beauty blu ray. I believe the current version of the castle looks much better thatn the 1999 version from the 70s. The current one looks high tech even though it is tech from the 60s

Re: Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough - 1999

Thanks for posting this! It was interesting to see more of this again, but I must say that I vastly prefer the original Ken Anderson 57-77 version, and the current reincarnation now of the Anderson version.

The 77 version to me just seemed to fall flat. The characters are all very static with no movement, and Aurora and Phillip look like refugee Barbie and Ken dolls. Not to mention most of the sets all look rather generic and don't look much like anything at like the film's style. Although I will say though I do love seeing a 3D mini-AA version of the Maleficent dragon. That is very cool. I just can't imagine though that people back in 77 thought that Earle's style of the film was "outdated" and they decided to replace it with Emporium like static windows displays.

I'm glad though when they went to redo the walk-thru, they chose to redo the Anderson 57 original, but updated it more. To me, it's more dark and mysterious, reflecting a lot of the nature of the film, the two-dimensional look of the attraction captures the film's visual style perfectly, and many of the effects are just as wonderful today as they probably were back in 57. And I know a lot of people complain about the forest sequence being missing in the original 57 version and current incarnation, but I think it actually adds to the fact that you're taking part of the adventure. Almost every scene that you see inside the castle, you're viewing as if you're actually inside itself (looking through archways into rooms and courtyards being revealed from the castle's point of view).

U know I do remember going in the castle back when I think it was 10 but I don't remember any of that stuff. I may have to go back in the castle on my next visit there.

Re: Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough - 1999

This is the one I grew up with, I remember back in the 1980's this version was kept up really well, but by the 90's it had really been left to rot. The glowing cotton ball that hypnotized Rose was a filthy ball of dust by the late 90's. I saw it last in January 2000, one year after this was filmed, and it had just lost all it's appeal. As a kid, this walkthrough was amazing, I remember never being able to miss it or it wouldn't feel like a real Disneyland trip... and believe me, in the 1980's a Disneyland trip was *special*, it was like a once-in-a-lifetime event, even if you went every year.

The new version is exceptionally well done, you can tell a lot of loving care went into it. I miss the 3Dness of it, but the new walkthrough really is superior. I just wish I could have grown up with the new one instead. It seems a LOT bigger to me too, I remember the old one was pretty cramped and there wasn't a lot of room to move around but the current one seems like you could drive a car through it in some places (laterally speaking). I had absolutely no idea how much room was inside that castle until I walked through the new one.

Thanks for the look back on this one, I really do miss it. Even though it's not as carefully done as the current one, it's nice to be able to at least look back on the old one and remember how Disneyland once was.

Those dolls were scary. I like the current version of the walkthru better.
