    [Chat] Ride Evacuation stories?

I was just reading the Splash Mountain thread and thought I'd make a new one to discuss all the ride evacs we have done!

I'll start with my first and only experience:

    Mr. Toad's Wild Ride....

I was 6 or 7, but I'm not certain. We had almost made it through the entire ride, but it broke down in the 'HELL' part of the ride at the end. All of a sudden the car just stopped. A CM walked up and when I asked what was wrong, she told me a "wheel had fallen off". I looked down, but the car was not exactly resting on it's wheels. I assumed it must have been another vehicle with real wheels (kids have strange logic!). But I used to call that the "hot part" of the ride and was pretty excited to walk through with my dad and his girlfriend. It was pretty awesome!

    Re: Ride Evacuation stories?

1968 on Alice in Wonderland. Approximately halfway through the ride, our caterpillar came to a stop behind another caterpillar full of adults. It was an uphill section of the track and their caterpillar couldn't make it. We wondered what would happen, then the house lights came on and the large dancing flowers stopped moving. The music continued though. Two cast members came and escorted all 4 of the adults off of the track and out a door. We were allowed to stay in our caterpillar because it was just me, my sister and my Dad. The house lights went off, the flowers started dancing again and the empty caterpillar in front of us went on ahead. A few seconds later ours started up and we finished going through the ride normally. I was disappointed at the time, thinking it had ruined the ride for us (as it was my first time on that attraction). But now I enjoy the memory of the novelty of it. I think that in the 1983 remodeling of Fantasyland, they changed the track layout so there wasn't a steep incline anywhere, they must have made the inclines more gradual. I have tried to find that exact spot in the ride on later visits, but I'm not sure. It was about halfway through though. It was kind of weird to see everything come to a stop for a couple minutes and how different everything looked under regular lights vs. black lights.

The only time I was evac'ed from a ride was on Splash Mountain. That's after hundreds of visits to Disneyland. We were riding through the Laughing Place scene, and suddenly a CM announced that they were going to restart the ride. We stopped a few feet away from the final lift. A few minutes later the work lights went on, and they announced a CM would help us out shortly. Our CM arrived, yanked us out of our logs, and I got to stand next to the possums. Then everyone walked out in a huge bunch, and we got to walk around the show building.

I saw the HM show building, the extra Splash Mountain logs, and some Storybook Canal boats. We then walked through the facade of Splash Mountain, past the recycling center, and through the gates back to Critter Country.

This wasn't really an evac, but in WDW this past spring break ToT was having many technical difficulties. We got stuck right before the drop, and just sat there with all the lights on. Eventually, the ride got started and we rode the whole thing lights on. Afterwards, we were allowed to go right back on for a proper ride.

            Gladly!

Those plastic figures are the green ghostly figures of the mom/dad that you pass by right before the drop.

I was at an awkward angle, so that's the best I could get! If you look closely, they're split. One half rotates down and the other half rotates up to give that effect of moving when all the lights are in play. It was pretty creepy to watch them move just looking like that though.

I have been walked off Roger Rabbit a few times, but most recently with my 2 very young children, we were just inside the entry of the ride, we could still see the people in line, however the evac from the end first, so I had to wait at least 10 minutes with 2 screaming kids. Needless to say, I wasnt very happy.

lol when I was 17, my best friend and I were riding Roger and we were talking about ghosts in the park and right when we got to the explosion with roger and the weasel all the light went off and we stopped. I yelled out "GHOST!" then the lights came on and cm speiled I felt so stupid cuz the car ahead of us was laughing at me. The evac its self was wierd because the cm that got us was so ridiculously into himself, everytime we passed a mirror he'd check himself out and also told us that he was the coolest cm in the park.

I wonder why they didn't let 2 of the adults stay? Kinda like make 'em draw straws to see who gets to stay? It seems strange that they would make the entire party leave. Perhaps they did not want to offend a 'heavier' person in the party?

In '07 my mom and dad and I were on RRCS, when out car suddenly stopped when Roger is getting electrocuted. We sat there with the lights on for about 15 minutes and then we were evacuated and we walked backwards through the ride.

my story isn't exactly an evac but it was close, sort of.

me and my friends were in line for splash mountain, just about 20 people in front of us, and it was our last ride of the day cause we had a deadline. all of a sudden one of the CMs working the ride fainted! we thought she may have got dehydrated or something cause it was may so it was a little warmish. there was like a medic there and everything, we thought they were going to close the ride or something, but about 15 minutes later, the ride started back up and everyone was fine, even the CM, well i assume she's fine.

I have no answer except to guess that maybe they thought the vehicle had malfunctioned and couldn't carry anyone. Although the vehicle was able to continue empty. If there was any explanation given I didn't hear it. I was only 8 and it probably would have gone over my head anyway. I remember the room was large and the track ran uphill from one corner to the other and had a slight S curve rather than going up in a straight line. I don't think that large room is there now.

                            1. Got stuck on Pirates right before the talking skull. Apparently the breaks were stuck that allowed the boats to go down the drop. The boat in front of us however began to yell, "We can do this! Forget about breaks!!" And the entire boat rocked back and forth until they managed to squeeze their boat past the breaks. We decided against this and instead were evacuated through a door in that area. Due to this experience, I used to be able to recite the entire skull speech word for word...

                            2. We were on the old limo ride at DCA before the park was open to the public. We got stuck staring at Whoopi Goldberg and were stuck long enough to find the hidden mickey on the ride. Eventually we were let out of our limo and walked the rest of the ride. The best part was that at the end of the ride where your picture is shown at your "premier" our ugly faces were permanently stuck on that screen.

                            3. Space mountain....dead stop...most painful experience ever. It was the very first time that I had the courage to ride by myself and of course the ride breaks down. I was terrified. They turned on all of the lights and cast members proceeded to push the cars the rest of the track. Luckily we were allowed to stay in our cars and got to ride again...so I guess that wasn't an evac story...oops.

                            4. Probably the greatest evac i've ever experienced... It was on space mountain and there was really no indication that anything was wrong. We sat down and were about to enter the mountain. The soundtrack started up and we went.....left into the storage area (LOL). The soundtrack was blaring as we looked around at chairs and whiteboards...it looked like a small office. I wish I had a camera because it was quite amusing. Eventually they shut off the soundtrack and pushed us back to the loading station where we were taken off the ride and put into a small room backstage while they evacuated other people from the ride. We were supposed to meet up with my sister later so I called her....turns out that at the exact same time she and her bf were stuck on autopia! what are the chances?? So that was the best evac story ever.

Locked bumpers, the brakes locking on the car and derailed cars. Those were the top three reasons for evacs when I worked Auto.

Let's see: 1. we broke down on the old limo ride and got to walk out of it - which was way more interesting than the ride.
                                    2. Big Thunder in the earthquake cavern going up the steep hill (that was fun getting out of). Got to walk through the the phosphorus pools of water section. This was bad for Russ as he has to use a cane and the steep walk uphill just about did him in.
                                    3. Pirates in the final burning building section before you go uphill. We didn't get to walk off the ride, but had to sit for about 30 minutes. Russ had a drip of water that kept hitting him in the head that must have been from the lagoon near the loading docks.

                                      Re: Ride Evacuation stories?

My only evac so far has been on Indy, the one ride I've always wanted to have to walk out of. Unfortunately, I only got stuck in the Chamber of Destiny, which I think is what caused the problem in the first place. My car turned towards the door on the right, the eyes lit up above that door, and then the ride stopped. Then a CM walked up and went through the middle door, and I never saw the room rotate or anything, so I'm guessing there was a problem with the rotation and it shut down the ride? That's my guess though, maybe someone else would know. It really sucked getting evac'd though, because they start from the end of the ride and go back towards the beginning, so since we had just left the loading station and weren't really into the ride, we had to wait about 20 minutes to get rescued, which was a bit ridiculous considering that we could turn around and see the loading station.

The only other tie a ride got went 101 with me on it was Space Mountain, which was an amazing experience but I didn't get evac'd. It was my last time on Space before that major refurbishment a few years back. My rocket was still at the beginning of the ride at the slow part before it goes downhill and gets fast, and I looked down and saw a bunch of glowing rockets stopped on the track under me. There was a scary moment when you think "wait a minute, why aren't they moving but we are? We're going to crash right into them!!" but then we reached a brake zone I guess because my rocket stopped. Then the lights came on, and I swear everyone on that ride at that moment cheered! Then two CMs came up to each rocket, released the brakes, and stood on each side of the rocket, grabbed the side, and ran alongside it like a bobsled team, and released the rocket. We still went full speed, and got to experience Space Mountain with the lights off.

My very first time riding Splash Mountain on August 28th, and it shuts down right after Brer Bear dipping up and down. Kinda cool walking through some scenes.

Still need to complete my Splash Mountain journey though.
