  • [Question] How would you fix tomorrowland?

If you were in control of disneyland how would you fix tomorrowland?

Back to the future. Would mix it up with what we thought the future would look like and see about re-imagining the future.

Well, a People Mover replacement would be crucial, as well as EO returning or something new in the Magic Eye Theater.

I would love to see a revised Innoventions, kinda Science Museum like. Really push the development and educational aspects. This attraction bores a lot of people, but I think it has great potential.

I would also love to see the whole place go obviously green, as a sign of where the future can go. I want them to put the possibility back in to.

Along with the new Star Tours I would love to see the Autopia get a clean up to actually look futuristic, and we need to open up the 2nd floor of the Starcade for God's sake.

And while I don't want anything removed, I would love to see Mission: Space from WDW put in.

Re: How would you fix tomorrowland?

        well since you asked...

#1 move Astro Orbitor where it belongs up on a new structure where the old Rocket Jets were.

#2 build a new track that can support anything worth while where the old People Mover track was. But as it gets out over Autopia it would have a new path that is a little more zippier. Think half rollercoaster, half transport. Show scenes in the indoor sections.

#3 remove the Buzz Lightyear theme from Blasters and bring in a Stitch theme. Each vehicle would be his red ship, and you blast all the other experiments. Up grade it using Midway Mania in parts of the ride, but still have figures and a few AA's. ( there should not be 2 Toy Story shoot 'em rides at the DLR. DUMB )

#4 Innoventions = Gone! New slow moving massive ride. In the style of Epcot attractions. Think Horizons meets Spaceship earth, but with a Wall E theme. The entire building will look like the massive Axiom Ship from the movie, like it just landed. The ride should have some message, like respect the earth, or something green / postive.

#5 Alien Encounter. Look at the success of Ghost Galaxy. I think we can handle it now. It should take up both floors of the Starcade. Queue and preshow at the bottom floor, then show room on the 2nd floor.

#6 3D theater, GONE. Replaces with a theater for live shows. It can be a smaller Hyperion type indoor theater for DL side. Since we lost Fanatsyland Theater to a Meet and Greet

#7 Star Tours 2. In progress, thank God. Park the X Wing on the roof of the building, have it appear to be getting ready to take off. Smoking, lights blinking, etc. The building should look like Coruscant.

#8 Entance to TLand, with the Astro Orbitor gone, make a new overhead sculpture that is similar to the design of the orbitor, but smaller, and include the new Tomorrowland marque. Maybe the support structure could be behind it and give the illusion that it's hovering. Wide open to let large crowds flow. A small futuristic fountain would be great too where the PM track splits.

#9 DLR Train Station. Give it a new station. Something that hints at time travel, to explain why there is a turn of the century train going through the land.

#10 Tomorrowland Terrace: Build a new awning that is more futuristic, give the whole TLT a makeover to match the new land. Not just a paint job AGAIN.

#11 Do something, ANYTHING with the back side of Buzz Lightyear. There is no excuse in a disney park to just have a giant flat wall be themeing for ANYTHING. Some decor, lights fake windows. ANYTHING.

#12 Space Mtn. Those outside projection effects from Ghost Galaxy were awesome on the exterion of the mtn. Maybe do a less scary version for the rest of the year. A lightning / electrical shooting effect in the tallest group of spires on the top would be great too. I love the neon rings that the HKDL have on their SM. Bring it on.

#13 Overhead moving sidewalks throught the land. There needs to be more of a multileval feel. Movement everywhere. Something the place is lacking big time.

I guess that's it for now.

-CoP comes home and stays there!
-All evidence of HIStA is stripped off, burned and replaced with something I can actually bare to watch.
-Starcade is torn down and replaced with a new omnimover...or something.

I've got basically nothing original, Bobby's plan is more laid out.

Re: How would you fix tomorrowland?

              Here we go again...

#1 & 2. ASTRO ORBITOR / PEOPLE MOVER - The astro orbitor will return to its old location with a brand new futuristic lift to bring passengers to the upper platform. Gone is the TOMORROWLANDING shop.

A new version of the People Mover returns and guests will be strapped in to keep them from reaching out to touch the walls. The vehicles also have a new feature that allows itself to collapse into itself and elongate when traveling through the smaller clearances. The theme will be: tomorrowland. That's it. There will be a tour guide of course and you have the option of turning the audio off, or choosing a variety of languages.

#3. SUBMARINE VOYAGE - Gone from this ride Finding Nemo will be. The original concept of exploring liquid space returns with even more incredible effects. The projection technology will only be used in small instances where schools of fish shot in HD will be projected to give the under water world a more realistic look. Atlantis makes a brief cameo, just like the original did, but this one will have a design that resembles the animated film's art direction.

#4. AUTOPIA - Complete 100% redesign. Gone are Bob Gurr's magnificently designed gas autopia cars. We're going electric and hopefully Honda or another major Car Company can sponsor. The eye-sore queue will also get a complete redo and the track will get a new layout that is more fun to drive and you'll see more things along the way, making this more than just a "driving ride". A small show building takes you through various time periods of American civilization with the finale involving flying cars and jet packs. The new queue will also display all the Autopia cars that have come before it.

#5 MONORAIL & SUBMARINE QUEUE - With the Autopia eyesore being taken care of, there's no better time than now to rethink the queue for the new Submarine Voyage and Monorail Station. It's kind of a cluster F-bomb right now and if it were looked at now, I'm sure they would have handled it differently.

#6 TOMORROWLAND TRAIN STATION - It's kind of an afterthought. A shack in the middle of nowhere. It's about time Tomorrowland get a better looking stop.

#7 BUZZ LIGHTYEAR ASTRO BLASTERS - I like the ride. I don't like the Toy aspect of it so I'm going to remove any part that indicates that this is a cheap toy ride. You are now joining the REAL Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger. You're not entering a cheap queue with illustrated wall paper. Gone is the etch-a-sketch. This ride will now be as detailed as Star Tours is across the way. Your mission is to travel from base to Gamma Quadrant sector IV and to defeat Emperor Zurg's robot army. Targets now SHOOT BACK and when they do, you spin out, making this ride more fun and repeatable because of the attention to detail.

#8 PIZZA PLANET & STARCADE - It's time to make the jump from "Port" to "Planet". And NO, this restaurant will not be covered head to toe with Buzz or Woody. I just like the name of it better and it had a great design quality in the film. I especially love the pizza with the ring around it logo (looks like saturn).

Starcade will have its second floor opened to have more games, bigger games. Of course there will be a CLAW game to win a rubber 3-eyed alien dog chew toy.

#9 STAR TRADERS - There seems to be more and more Star Wars stuff creeping out of that small crawl space they originally had built at the exit of Star Tours. Since I've pushed Starcade up the stairs, there's more room downstairs now to extend the store a bit. They could rededicate an area for the Star Wars specific merchandise so there's more room to move about as the photo kiosk and the build-your-own-lightsaber stations can get very crowded.

#10 INNOVENTIONS - This is the real blue sky piece for me.... I'm going to have to think hard.

Re: How would you fix tomorrowland?

PeopleMover track becomes WALL-E's Journey to Axiom, with vehicles styled after those in WALL-E, and new show building in current backstage area. Track rerouted out of Innoventions into new building, otherwise track remains the same. WALL-E won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film and deserves to be featured prominently.

Redd Rockett's Pizza Port closes. Star Tours moves into that building, which used to house Flight to the Moon/Mission to Mars, which were also motion simulator rides.

Honey, I Shrunk the Audience ends, theater shows new 3-D film Wonders of Tomorrow. Once a day showings of Captain EO in same theater.

Adventure thru Inner Space rebuilt in original location, vacated by Star Tours, with same soundtrack and concept, new generation effects.

Innoventions closes, Carousel of Progress reopens, with updated shows featuring today's technology and tomorrow's technology. Progress City rebuilt upstairs.

Astro Orbiter moved to top of PeopleMover station, location of Rocket Jets.

Autopia converted to electric vehicles, designed after the pods in The Incredibles. Photovoltaic panels on rooftops of Tomorrowland buildings supply electricity.

Starcade and area in front of Space Mountain converted to small ride with trackless system and guest-controlled vehicles through obstacle course - however if you hit an obstacle, computer takes over control of your vehicle and diverts it to an exit, and your ride is over. Skill and practice get guests all the way through the course. Theming is based on Space Buddies.

Trees planted throughout Tomorrowland. Food service is Jetsons style. New E-ticket attraction, Time Trip, eventually replaces Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters.

Re: How would you fix tomorrowland?

Well, it would be similar in experience to PeopleMover, a meandering, relaxing tour of Tomorrowland, and the little cockroach character from WALL-E would sit on the edge of the vehicle and provide narration. And you could touch the screen to make the vehicle rotate the way you want it to. But if you were looking the wrong direction, the cockroach would say, for example, "No, turn the other way, look behind you, that's Space Mountain! Oh... you missed it!" And if your hand or arm extended too far the cockroach would gently remind you. Or if you stood up, he would say, "Hey! Sit down! Do you want to get kicked out of Disneyland?" And they would have the announcements like in the movie, but then the cockroach would say, "Just ignore that, by the way. That's just some lady they hired for one day to do the voiceover. She's not really here." And at the end he would say, "Next time can you bring me some popcorn?"

how would the cockroach narrate? it never spoke in the movie, just jumped and squeaked. having an english speaking cockroach seems more like A Bug's Life thing.

Bulldoze it & start all over from scratch.

Then make it both reminiscent of the past and yet very VERY futuristic, showcasing truly cutting edge technologies (i.e., an exploration of nanotechnology). Mildly sci fi but largely edutainment-oriented.

For the Tomorrowland Terrace stage, instead of the current backdrop I'd have a sculpture which is a 3-D version of M.C. Escher's Relativity, with the figures constantly in motion.

There is very little I disagree with in your re-interpretation of Tomorrowland. Sounds incredibly awesome.

I agree that having 2 different Toy Story-themed shooting rides is redundant, but I'm not so sure about bringing Stitch in. Upgrading with Midway Mania technology, though, is a definite.

I like this idea in theory, but what live shows would there be for Tomorrowland? Personally I'd put Mickey's Philharmagic here, but then that goes against the whole Tomorrowland theme, so...mehhh...

Definitely something that's been missing for a long time, especially with the PeopleMover leaving. Sidewalks, PeopleMover 2.0, reopening the escalator up to Space Mountain...anything to get that "multilevel" feel would be a fantastic addition.

Re: How would you fix tomorrowland?

For starters ... whatever would be built .. it would be more room than before .. by demolishing most of the land .. and dig a good 30-40 foot "basement" throughout most of the land .. so some of the rides can be two stories - like Alice In Wonderland, Splash Mountain, PotC.

The more square footage created .. the greater potential the land has!

And as planned in the mid 60s for "TL:67" .. and "TL:2055" for the mid 90s .. that BOTH got canned .... that "TWO STORY" LAND idea .. would finally come to realization!

So .. actually .. the land would be "3 stories" .. with a lower "hidden" level to make the rides/attractions large enough to handle today's crowds.

                                        GONE....
                                        would be:

                                        * Innoventions building
                                        * R2P2
                                        * both flanking "west" and "east" wings of the Space Mountain complex
                                        * "Magic Eye" Theater
                                        * relocate backstage necessities to expand TL beyond the berm.
                                        * front facade/extra queue section of Star Tours
                                        * Buzz Lightyear/Coke Terrace buidling

And in place of all this ... would be larger buildings that have more "vertical" space .. but, YET, still maintain some level of "force perspective" from other view points in the park .. that won't be impeding.

                                        RETURNING ATTRACTIONS -
                                        The new Star Tours
                                        Space Mountain
A larger, and improved Buzz Lightyear
Newly styled - Rocket Jets/Astro Orbitor

                                        NEW
Brand new Peoplemover type experience WITHOUT DOUBT!
Other attractions - all new. Original. NO MORE TOONS! (Buzz is it!) MAYBE .. Tron Legacy attraction - if pulled off correctly!

Whatever takes place in the Innoventions building .. (which is strategically placed in the center of the land) - would be Tomorrowland's "CENTER PIECE" E-ticket quality family adventure which would set the tone for all of Tomorrowland!

AS FOR THE NORTH/EAST QUADRANT OF DL (TL)
Since Nemo has it's "fantasyland" theme, with no tie in to the world of the future ........ this area would take on a more official - aquatic/fantasy theme ... by hyping the area with some new "aquatic" adventures.

In place of Autopia ... would be a new and improved version of DisneySea's Aquatopia. But instead of turning around in one single "pond" area ... this version of Aquatopia would have "lanes". And each pilot would pivot through a series of lanes that would take riders into some "mysterious" caves .. with some fancy "show room" quality special effects.

                                        OVERALL THEME?

Not sure what the style would be.
It depends on what modern futurists there are in our society today .. that can give Disney some architecturally cool "futuristic" designs that really put TL into the future!

But since predicting the future is tough work ... and some "past" futures never materialized in our modern world........ I just wonder ............... if...............

They go back to the early sketches of "TL:67" and really hype up the "Jetsons 60s" oval shaped future.

This vision of the future is still "futuristic" because modern day society - 40 years later .. never took on this look.

                                        side note -
We all carry on how we hate retro futures .. and I agree with a lot of it. But until our every day way of life takes on some of these "futures" that have since been envisioned .. they are still deemed "futuristic".

                                        This is a tough call.

But if nothing architecturally comes up that is unlike anything we've seen before that is deemed - futuristic ............. then perhaps a hyped up 60s/oval shaped TL.

                                        Another side note -
I read somewhere .. that Tony Baxter would love a new Peoplemover attraction .. but with that kitchy 60s music the '67 original had .. then a Tomorrowland .. that has a hyped up "Jetsons" view .. then Tony Baxter's Peoplemover will fit right in.

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.
