  • [Question] Newbie with question re: rides

    Hi All:

I found this chat forum last night and stayed up to the wee hours of the morning learning tons about Disneyland.

I am planning my first "official" visit (explanation below) to Disneyland and had a question re: rides. How many rides can you do in a typical day (wait times etc impact this I know, but approximately?). We are planning on mid week visit in 2nd week of February 2010, and want to know how much a 3 day park hopper pass will allow us to do.

The reason behind "official" visit is I have been to Disneyland once before (on October 21, 2009 with a charity called Dreams Take Flight). We were in the park for one day and had special privileges (sp?) and didn't have to wait in line, so I have no idea what a typical visit to Disneyland is like. If any of you were there on Oct. 21, you probably saw our group in the red, white and black jerseys and baseball hats. There were over 300 of us in the park, so it was kind of hard to miss us!!!

That one day visit has got me hooked and now I'm dragging my husband down in February and maybe planning a trip in 2011 with some of my nieces and nephews.

I have a couple more questions, but I'll see if I can find the answers on the board first.

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

Well, on a typical day we can get anywhere between 16 and 22 rides in comfortably. This is on a day where we watch parades, fireworks, have meals and don't run between rides.

Mid Feb the crowds should be pretty light which will help with wait times. I think you'll be able to get in quite a bit actually.

    And welcome to MiceChat!

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

If you utilize fast passes, in a 3 day period, you should certainly be able to ride everything. With enough time to ride your favorites multiple times. I went for 2 days last year, and we did not ride evry single attraction (Hista? Uck!), we did go on everything we wanted to ride! It was awesome! Have fun! Welcome to Mice Chat!

As a veteran of Disneyland, going back to opening day, 1955, age 3, I'd urge you to look beyond the rides. Sure, the rides rock, but the musical acts, parades, and plays deserve your attention as you plan your day. If you still have your heart set on the rides, read the Fastpass tips on this website. To jump on the cool rides, fast, jump on the "A Ticket" bus or horse drawn carriage, as you enter the park. This will take you to the Hub, where you can race to your favorite land. Or, take the train to the back of the park, to your destination of choice.

Tip #1: They are called "attractions." Because they are not just rides.

That's a good time to go. Fastpass might not even be necessary.

And I agree with the "looking beyond number of attractions" comment. Maybe one day you try to do a "gumball rally," for the fun of it then and for bragging rights afterward.

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

if you don't have fastpasses, don't let the long wait times intimidate you TOO much.. most of the time, if you skip out on a ride because the line is too long, then look for another, and skip out on that one too.. you'll be spending more time walking around looking for a short line than you would have to simply wait in the first one.

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

Definitely get there before the park opens. You can hit up a lot of rides in those first few hours that the park is open!

So THAT'S who you guys were! We saw you everywhere and wondered what was going on.

Seconding the advice to get there before the park opens. My strategy is, stay back by the train station, enjoy the opening announcement, and when the rope drops and the mass of people surges forward, hop the train and get to New Orleans Square before most of the Main Street crowd gets past the bottleneck. (Of course, NOS is my favorite part of the park; this advice is less useful if you want to hit up Tomorrowland.)

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

A three day park hopper in February, you should be able to hit every attraction as well as catch most if not all of the shows and other great offerings like parades. A good tip that bears repeating (it was already mentioned here) is to get there early. You can hit up most of the attractions in an entire land in those first couple of opening hours.

Welcome to mice chat! I hope you enjoy your first "official" visit and come back for many more!

Re: Newbie with question re: rides

I went in that time earlier this year and I easily got 20-30 in a day. It shouldn't be hard to get on most rides.

From what I can tell, you do greater things than I. I will help you as much as I can. (I might tease a little, too. It's my nature.)

In three days you should be able to do every ride in DCA and Disneyland
plus take some time down at Downtown Disney (you could do every attraction if you skip DTD---attractions being ride, shows, tours and landmarks)
and then repeat some of your favorite rides (esp. in early Feb....if you went in Jan you should have both parks done by mid day on second day).
Now if you don't get to the park until late (afternoon) and leave early, you'll could get both parks done in three days.

To that end I'd like the Internet community to join me in reminding the Disney company that "it all started with Walt." As you can see below we've created some T-shirts, plus a few simple graphics that you can copy and paste into your websites to let folks know how you feel.
