  • [Question] How to get a clear pic - TOT and SM

    Hi Everyone,
Everytime I try to get a "monitor pic" from TOT or SM, it don't turn out so good! What's the best way to get a nice clear pic? I am using a DSLR camera.

What do you mean by "Monitor" Pic? A picture of the TV in TOT and the large screen in the loading station on SM?

I think they meant the pictures at the end of the ride... I'd like to know how too!

Awww ... no flash and just hold it as still as possible.

Yeah, the picture taken of you when you're on the ride!
I don't use flash, and I do hold it still, but still bad.

With a DSLR it shouldn't be hard to do at all. I've gotten many decent ones with my point and shoot.

Are you trying to do it on night shot or anything?

No, just the auto setting with no flash.

Set the shutter speed to the slowest value you can without getting much motion blur from your hands shaking - this will take some experimenting on your own. Then set the ISO pretty high and hope for the best!

Also if you are taking the picture heavily zoomed-in it can accentuate the blur/shake.

^ Indeed. In this case, better to move the camera closer than to zoom in. Although you don't want to hold the camera up there too long...be considerate of other guests, please!

If you have a canon, set the dial to "P" (I think most dslrs have this) mode and move in close to the screen so your camera can detect more light and have a faster shutter speed reducing shake and what not =).

The problem (at least with Space Mountain) is that with the monitors have a certain amount of "flicker." If your shutter speed is too fast, you'll end up with part of the monitor being dark. I usually use a shutter speed of around 1/50th of a second for this; it seems to eliminate the flicker, but my hands are steady enough to still get a clear image with my 24mm lens.
