I've posted this photo SO many times and told the story SO many times, so, forgive me...those of you who have seen it ad nauseum.
My mom and dad took me to DL for the first time in 1966. My mom had cancer, and, died in 1970. This first trip is all I needed to become a DL freak for life! (I have only one other photo of this trip and it's of me in front of the Matterhorn.) This is us standing next to Monstro. I love Monstro because of this photo & buy anything I can find with Monstro on it..which isn't much. Each time I return to DL, I get my photo with him, in memory of my mom. It's one of the only spots in the world where I can go and stand almost exactly where I stood with my mom, before she died, when I was 9.
That story brought tears to my eyes. I'm glad you are able to relive some of those memories in the same spot.
I have a bunch of old DL photos I will try to have up soon.
Does anyone have any photos at the Disneyland Hotel from pre-1999? I've been searching everywhere for some and have come across quite a few, though many are official photos. Would love to see if any has pictures from the rooms back then, the real marina, inside the arcade, etc., to stir up some memories.
Haha, that photo from 99ish looks like it was taken longer ago than that. I can't explain why... I guess that was before the digital camera age too right?
Sorry, were you talking about my photos?? Wasn't sure...
"...Gentlemen, I wash my hands of this weirdness."
Not only because they are adorable (and they are)...but they remind me of my earliest Disneyland visits with my own grandparents. The only grandpa I ever knew was kinda like a substitute Dad in my earliest years. He died less than a month after Walt Disney did.
Both great men, in my eyes, that died much too young. I still miss my grandpa.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
If your photos are the 45th anniversary of DL, (the castle has that banner) that was in 2000.
Haha yea I know! I already mentioned that in my photo description. I think it was April 2000 - my first ever trip to a Disney park (soon followed by WDW around 2 weeks later!)
