  • [Question] Peter Pan's Flight, or How to kill an hour waiting in line

While reading the responses to what the best 'little' ride in DL is, I started wondering why is there always such a long wait for Peter Pan's Flight. To me the only things really special about it are the scenes where you are flying over London and Neverland. Other than that it's just another Dark Ride.

What are your ideas on why this ride is more popular than the other dark rides?

I think because you are "flying" while the rest of the rides you are, well riding

Peter Pan is fun, but I prefer the other dark rides in Fantasyland at Disneyland. Sometimes, I just ride Pinocchio, Snow White and Mr. Toad over and over again. If I really want to ride Peter Pan, than I head there first. Since I don't get to Disneyland too often, sometimes that means that I have to get there early two days for sure. I save one morning for Dumbo, and then another would be Peter Pan. Although sometimes, I head for Tomorrowland instead, because I'd rather ride Star Tours than Peter Pan.

I love peter pan.. I don't know why its always so busy! But I love it either way. Even with an impatient 2 year old... you find things to keep them entertained. LoL

I've always thought it would speed up the line quite a bit if it had the omnimover system that WDW's Peter Pan has.

People naturally always move to the Right since most of us here in the US are right handed. Peter Pan is the first ride on your right when you enter Fantasyland. Most touring plans always have you start on the LEFT side of the park. Of course this is why poor Snow White gets less people, there all in line for Peter Pan.

Re: Peter Pan's Flight, or How to kill an hour waiting in line

I think there are several factors:

              1. Peter Pan is one of the most popular of all the classic animated films, especially with the new Tinkerbell spinoff material.
              2. Dude, you get to fly. Don't underestimate the impact of that.
              3. Time it sometime. You say "the only things really special about it are the scenes where you are flying over London and Neverland," but that's about 75% of the track length right there, maybe more. You've basically admitted that most of the ride is really special.
              4. Lower vehicle capacities than Snow White or Pinocchio. The average family of four or five can all fit into one mine cart, but they have to take two pirate ships. That drives up the wait time for purely mathematical reasons.

The last time I was at Disneyland on my birthday, last month), this was a favorite I HAD to see at any cost. So, with my mp3 player in hand, I took the risk, anyway as I never get to see this attraction very often. Needless to say, it was worth it!

As what other people have said, it's popular and it's place is on the right side. What other people have said on, bring a moving convayor belt(like what WDW's has) might be a little hard to do(I.E. people with disablites.) I am open to the idea of a Fastpass station for Peter Pan's Flights:mob:

On how to kill an hour, waiting in line, bring ether a book you are reading, a portable game system, a portable music system or point out to people the finer details of Fantasyland.

It's not just another dark ride, it's the best of the best! No new technology or fancy effects, just good old fashion fun.

If there were only 5 people in the whole park, 4 of them would be in line for Peter Pan.

I always thought it was just a slow-loader with low capacity. My family always took up two ride vehicles for the four of us. I can see why it's popular though, but it's not my favorite.

Sorry Brian, but I'm going to have to disagree with the people always move to the right comment. If that were the case Tomorrowland and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln would be the first place people go when they enter the park.

Tomorrowland IS the busiest area in the morning. I do agree that of the people that go into Fantasyland, Peter Pan is immediately on the right.

Pan now takes 4 per boat at the most instead of 3. The rest of the rides in Fantasyland can take on well above that. Max on the rides is more than most believe... if you are capable of having lap sitting. Play a game in line.

Yep. Tomorrowland is usually the first place I go to as well, and if I go somewhere like Adventureland first, there's no one there. But also to be fair, sometimes they have that thing where you could go to the park early and only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland are open, and it seems like a lot of people go straight for Space Mountain.

That has cut the times down to about 30-40 minutes but that still is pretty high considering that Pinocchio is about 10 minutes and Snow White is practically a walk-on. A good point is made about the amount of passengers that can go through a ride per hour. Both toad and Alice, which I think have the fewest seats per vehicle, have wait times of around 40 minutes too sometimes so I don't think that it is just the popularity of the attraction itself that factors into the long wait times.

From the popularity standpoint I would say that Pan can somewhat be considered as the thrill ride of sorts for very young children because of the perspective of riding above the showscenes and the various dips that occur in the latter part of the ride. All of which also represents, to adults, a nostalgic sense of Disney's ride innovation spirit at that particular time in history.

Toad and Alice are my favorites, and I have spent around 45 minutes waiting for each of them. I don't remember how many people Alice can fit, but I'm pretty sure Toad can only fit 2 people, right? That's probably why it has a long line. I never really though Toad was popular at all, especially considering that not many people have seen his movie.... although that's not really fair because if the popularity of rides were based on how many people have seen the movie, then Splash Mountain would be a walk-on. LOL

That's silly. They go to the right because they drive on the right, and they drive on the right because:

It's an ingrained cultural thing - keep to the right so you don't run into everybody. First thing on the right at the end of Main Street is Tommorowland - it's the easiest thing to go to.

The British and all the former colonies are a more stubborn bunch and we stuck to the Roman convention of keeping left for everything - even though we are mostly right handed too. I apologise to everybody I accidentally slam into when I lapse back into habit
