  • Ballooning Over Disneyland?

One of the most interesting aspects of the 50th to me has been the ability to see large versions of the concept art that Walt and his team originally came up with. In one version, which looks very similar to the current park the artist has drawn a hot-air balloon flying high over the park. It may have an aesthitic detail but certainly not without merit.

Now it appears that the San Diego Wild Animal Park is doing something very similar, launching an 800 foot wide balloon that can hold over 5000 pds and drift into the skies above the park giving visitors a bird's eye view.

Do you think Disney should or could look into similar ideas? Imagine getting to fly high above the resort? If not in Disneyland to harken back to the concept art, what about launching from DCA over the farm and wine area?

Cool idea, but I'd hate to see the line for that ride...

Wasn't that called the Skyway? It's the same idea.

Ah, the skyway... I miss it. We still have one here at the Zoo!

Although I would like to balloon over Disneyland, I don't know if the same appeal is there. Ballooning over the WAP makes sense because you can see how animals move and group in a semi-natural habitat, just like in the nature shows, etc. That was the impetus for starting the balloon idea. I don't know if it really translates well to Disneyland, even though to us Disney fanatics, it would be awesome.

Disneyland Paris opened Panoramagique this year. And, it looks like a great attraction. It's a captive balloon that requires a separate ticket.

Yeah, if I had a choice of ballooning over DL or WAP, I'd choose WAP too!

They have a ride like that in Disney Village in EuroDisney. You have to pay to ride it though.
