  • [Question] Disneyland on New Year Day (not eve)

Contemplating going to DL on NYE. I've done it before--not impossible, but very tiring and not fun for everyone in the group. The size of the crowd can be very intimidating.

As an alternative I'm looking at going on NYD (Jan 1st) instead. I've gone on this day several years ago and don't remember much about it, so I was wondering if you guys can give me an input on the following:

-Crowd size: big drop off from NYE?
-Park hour and shows: is the park on "off-" or "busy-season" schedule?
-Holiday ride closures: are the makeovers immediately coming down starting Jan 1? I remember there being a "grace period".

Your relevant inputs and anecdotes encouraged.

In my experience, New Year's Day is a pretty good day to go. Especially if you're able to get there right at opening, you have a pretty clear few hours to do as much as your heart desires.

Most people are either too hungover or tired from the night before, or they're at the Rose Parade, or they're at the Rose Bowl. Or they're still on their way home from vacation.

I remember working on New Year's Day at the park and begged to go home because it was so dead. (they let me go home)

The Holiday themes are scheduled to run to Sun. Jan. 3, so everything will still be there Jan. 1 and start coming down Mon. Jan. 4.

Hmm, the official site doesn't have the hours for Jan 1 posted yet. Historically, what are their hours on this day? It's also a Saturday, so I would guess an 8-10?

Jan. 1 is Friday, not Saturday.

I don't remember if it was last year or the year before, But I went on the day after new years (1/2), and it was plenty busy. Not ridiculously busy, but the shortest lines were about 20 minutes.

                    wow really?
i though NYE would be like one of the busiest days
it just seemed logical to me
                    since thanksgiving is busy
                    and christmas is busy
i thought there was a pattern
                    guess not )

NYE is very busy. NYD is less-so.
