  • [Review] Joy to the Small World = Bland ?

Something about that tag line doesn't really hit the spot for me.

I hope that's not the only billboard they've got for the Holiday season.

BTW: The wisdom of having an official start to the season on a Friday the 13th.....

Forget Friday the 13th, just the fact that the second week in November = Christmas time is crazy.

Normally i would agree with you
but with so many ppl worried about things (jobs, war etc)
        the message is fitting

Well, Disneyland is supposed to be a place where you forget your troubles.

That tagline "Joy of The Small World" feels a bit cynical and jaded...although I guess it could be interpreted as clever and edgy.

It seems to me that, no matter what's going on the world, Disneyland, especially around the Holidays is about the warm & fuzzies.

Or, nothing at all....maybe don't have a tagline and simply put a cheerful festive picture of the Winter Castle and "Disney Holidays"...which is what they had last year?

What's wrong with "Joy to the Small World"? It's a pun on "Joy to the World" by adding the word "small" from "It's a Small World", which is contributing to the holiday festivities.

              Makes sense to me.

Re: Joy to the Small World = Bland ?

Well, it might be a snarky pun....and they might also be going for irony in that it actually comes off as rather Joy-less.

But, that doesn't strike me as essentially "Disney" ie...the sense of wonderment, the magic and awe....I don't get that sense from this advertisement.

You know I've been going to Disneyland during the Holidays, and spending quite a bit of money on them (multi-day passes) for the last 5 Holiday seasons. I'm taking a break and decided to sit this Holiday season out this year, and this advertisement doesn't do anything to make me regret my decision.

I don't see a lot of urgency or passion in this advertisement to make me want to race back.

The new Holiday commercials are wonderful and are especially touching if you're viewing them from about 360 miles away not knowing when you'll be able to visit the park again.

It's sweet. Its only drawback is that it might be a little too on the nose for Disney. They are creative, and the tag line has a certain air of laziness about it. But, I like it, nonetheless.

They were obviously going for a more minimalistic approach with this particular tag-line, and who's to say they're at fault? Honestly, I wouldn't read too much into this. Instead, simply enjoy the upcoming (meaning totally still not here yet) holiday season whether you spend it at the parks, or elsewhere.

                          Happy Thanksgiving.
