  • [Question] Which ride has the oddest ending?

I was watching my screen-saver slideshow slip by and it came across the mural that ends the Snow White's Scary Adventure and it got me thinking about my question: Which ride has the oddest ending?

Snow White is pretty odd as you are going through all the scary aspects of the film and suddenly the doors open and it says "And they lived happily ever after". Now that I am old enough that the ride doesn't scare me any longer - lol - I chuckle every time the ride ends.

Anyone else have a favorite odd ride ending?

Watching a dinosaur battle from the seat of my 1890s train car has to rank up there...

Dang it I was going to say Snow White! But another one would probably be Mr. Toad and the Hell Scene. Or the tram ride on the way back to the parking lot because it's so sad that your days over! Plus the guy that talks is usually grumpy and boring.

Snow White takes the cake ... it has no ending.

Space Mountain ... not the ending of the ride, the exit. Stairs are so futuristic aren't they!!!

Snow White and Mr. Toad are definitely up there. I think Pirates is maybe a little anticlimactic, too, as much as I love the ride. I have some trouble classifying the primeval world diorama as the end of an attraction, though I suppose it is if you get off at Main Street...but anyway, yeah, that's a little peculiar, too. Oh, and Big Thunder has that supremely anticlimactic moment near the end.

              Snow White without a doubt.

I will also go with Snow white...I think overall the whole ride makes no sense (IMO)

Snow White & Toad definitely. I think that Snow White jumps from scene to scene so much that nothing makes sense really and with Toad, I think that it will be the only ride in the history of Disney parks where the guest ends up in hell.

toads ride, although ending up in hell made sense as it didnt have a huge gap like snow white. Snow White ride should be called snow white.. to make a short story, even shorter.

Re: Which ride has the oddest ending?

I'm inclined to say Pooh... however, Snow White lacks a true ending unless you count the painting on the wall that you don't notice when you get off the ride.

I agree with Data on Big Thunder... when you go up that tall lift with the vibrating rocks it feels as if you're going to have a steep drop, yet the train falls very slowly into a shallow drop and then turns into a tiny "splash" and then the ride is over. I think the Imagineers could have ended it WAY better than they did, but it's a fun ride nevertheless.

Oh, and Alice in Wonderland doesn't have the most exciting ending either.

Oh yes, Pooh IS a very odd one.

Victoria, while I still stand by my comment about Big Thunder being anticlimactic, I do want to be careful about suggesting the Imagineers could have done better. I think the track layout overall is fantastic...it's really just the end that drops the ball, and the thing is, they didn't have the advanced computer systems we have today. According to Jason Surrell's The Disney Mountains: Imagineering at Its Peak, they had to feed the primitive 1970s computer nine different versions before they found a track that was both aesthetically pleasing and physically practical. As anyone who's played Roller Coaster Tycoon can confirm (), it's actually not the easiest thing in the world to come up with a satisfactory end to a coaster. You have to get the track back to where it started while providing a fun experience and not killing the guests.

That being said, I of course still wish Big Thunder ended better. Oh well. I still ride it over and over again.

I have to disagree with all of you and say Matterhorn. The abominable snow man is roaring at you each time you pass by him and nearly scares you right out of your socks, and he never gets slayed in the end?! How does that make any sense?

Yeah, Data, I totally get what you mean. I didn't really think of it in those terms. But again it's a really fun ride and one of my must-dos every time I'm in the park. It's just a bit funny how there's some buildup of excitement toward the end with the shaking boulders and then it pretty much ends there.

My husband always forgets about that spot on BTMRR. Going up the track with the rocks ready to fall on you and then viola a big letdown as he says. The first time we ride it each trip he says "Well that was a let down" It is like he forgets about that part and is expecting something more!

My vote also goes for Pooh. Also, the Happy Birthday scene is such a generic, cheap way to end the ride. At least the other scenes in the ride actually take place in the movie.
