  • [Question] First ride tradition?

Whenever the parents would take us to Disneyland we always rode POTC first. We only went once a year or two, so it just became a tradition. Which I still do everytime I go and I go about once a month now.

Does anyone else have a first ride they ride everytime they go?

First ride of the trip for us? Every time...World Famous Jungle Cruise! My wife and I get on the boat, take a deep sigh, and say, "We're here!"

Well...when I was young, Pirates was often our go-to ride in the morning. Then we/I wisened up about line lengths and for a long time, Space Mountain or Indiana Jones would come first. Nowadays...I dunno, anything can happen.

Oh yeah, for me it's got to be Indy! I don't know what it is but it just doesn't quite seem that I'm actually "here" until I finally take a spin on that great attraction! It's kind of like you have to be "pinched" to make sure you're not dreaming, same thing!

Star Tours, it's a rush to Tomorrowland, and it's a soaking in of the Star Wars experience. But it's more than just that, the initial walking through the park heading past the castle towards the Tomorrowland entrance all the way through to the ride itself (to this day for me) is like the slow peal away of all my worries and cares. I mean the night before when we arrive at the hotel I realize we're not in Arizona anymore, but it doesn't truly sink in that we are in Disneyland until I take that pivotal walk through the park.

              Re: First ride tradition?

We normally have to go on Pirates first. Then we look at the map and normally do each land one at a time, like all of Tomorrowland, then Adventureland, and so forth. After we get most of the park done we relax the rest of the vaca.
We do the "Ahhh we're here" thing when we get near Harbor blvd or close to DLR. Actually we say, we're home cause that's what it feels like. HOME

Peter Pan! We normally have a least one newbie. We talk up how exciting the rides are, take them on Peter Pan, where they think we are crazy, and then to Thunder Mountain. LOL

                    Me, too!

When we go to DCA, we usually get Fastpasses for Soarin and then go to Toy Story Mania.

My we're here "thing" is the chime that plays when our tickets are scanned.

The first ride depends on who get to choose that day. If it's me, we're headed to Space Mtn. If it's the kid, chances are good we're headed for Indy.

We trade off so everyone gets a chance to choose.

Grab a fastpass for Indy, then go onto Pirates. Maybe twice if the line still hasn't kicked in. Then Indy. I'm going soon, and I'm so excited to be pondering these plans again

I try and ride Indy first, but the line is usually longer than we want to wait in, so we get a fastpass for it and then go on POTC In my opinion, Pirates is a great first ride.

When I was a kid and Disneyland was something we only got to enjoy once every few years, the first one to spot the Matterhorn from the freeway got to choose the first attraction!

Pirates is a fantastic first ride! And is always my first . There's just something so innately cool about first being immersed in New Orleans Square, then entering into the landing area and feeling the humid air hit you, then slowly going further and further into the building, hearing the skull start talking about not being able to turn back...

And then suddenly your senses get overwhelmed with it all. The darkness of the cave, the rush of the wind as you plunge down, the smells of the water and the cave... it's the perfect tempo and in my opinion the best way to start a Disney Day .

And then after something to ease me into my day, I can go onto Indy .

but it's just more "who can see something from disneyland first?"

We usually head for Pirates first, and usually get sidetracked on the Jungle Cruise.

Interesting responses. It's funny to me how everyone seems to hop on a major E-ticket attraction upon going in. What my family usually does is to grab a Fastpass for something as soon as we enter, and then go on a smaller-scale attraction while we wait. For example, when we go into the Magic Kingdom, we'll veer into Tomorrowland, get a Fastpass for Buzz, and then go on the Carousel of Progress or PeopleMover in the meantime.

And we save the E-ticket attractions - like Pirates, Haunted Mansion, and BTMRR - for the nighttime, when they get really good. Kind of like a grand finale to our day in the park.
