[Other] Biggest rip off at Disney.

Ok I admittedly have a love hate relationship with DL. I love the park but hate the corporate greed. Dont get me wrong. Its a business and should make money but its getting crazy. I make decent money and love to take my daughter but every time I go I cant help but think I'm getting fleeced by the mouse.

Let me know what you think the worst abuses are.

I think the $6 hot dogs are outrageous. For that price they should come with fries, not a teensy bag of chips or apple slices.

The one meal I felt ripped off by was breakfast in Disneyland. By the time I added a $4 juice (ugh), I paid almost $20 for a small amount of eggs/pancakes/sausage.

I actually don't find the prices too bad in general, some of the mexican food in general I thought was good.

But, that's coming from an adult with no children. I remember feeling good about what I paid for pasta in Tomorrowland, but when I saw a guy behind me shelling out over $60 for his family, including rather piddly kids meals, I realized how brutal the pricing must feel for the typical family.

Ponchos. They know you want one. They stamp "Disney Parks" on them. They charge a ridiculous amount for a garment you wear for about 5 minutes, and will likely throw away before the day is over.

The $91 (or $99?) One day park hopper. That's insane when you could get an AP for $50 more.

$4.29 for an ear of corn or $5.99 for a kids meal that consists of a cheese stick and goldfish!

A $72 ticket to DCA only, on a day it's only open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. How many such tickets do they sell?

Corporate greed? Please - if you owned Disney, you would charge the same prices, because like it or not, the prices Disney charges are what the free market accepts.

This and the fact that revenue dropped 7 percent over the past year.

To the OP: Think prices are high now?

This is probably my biggest complaint of all. So ridiculous.

This is pretty much the case. Disney can charge more because they know that (up to a point) people will pay it. Some people would rather go ahead and pay the outrageous prices to eat in the park, rather than take the time to walk across the street to eat at McDonalds. People from out of town will pay the outrageous prices for a souvenir because its Disneyland and it might be the only trip they get to make for a year or more. And yes there is some overhead that goes into everything that Disney sells on property but there is also a pretty high profit markup I'm guessing.

$16-17 for the chicken meal at Plaza Inn (3-4pc chicken, mashed potatoes, veggies, drink).

but i still keep buying it... and that's why they can keep pricing it as such

so i do apologize for partly being the reason why the prices stay high. sorry guys!

Don't think the high prices are unique to just Disney parks. I went to Universal Studios over the summer and the prices were quite comparable to Disneyland. The theme park industry knows they have an audience that is willing to pay the prices for a day or week of fun.

True. No one forces anyone to pay Disney's prices. It's not a rip-off if you willingly make the purchase.

A more accurate title for this thread would be "Most overpriced thing at Disneyland", at least based on how I answered.

A $6 hot dog didn't rip me off because I most certainly didn't buy one.

If I owned Disney? Honestly, no I wouldn't charge the same prices. I would not be an executive who thinks he will be at another company in five years, so he has to make decisions for the short term. I would be better able to think in the long term, and that means offering good value for the money in order to build long term customer loyalty, and foster repeat business. That way, I wouldn't have to bribe people (offering cheap APs) to keep showing up for a devalued product. They would come because of the overall excellent and magical experience, with no rip offs.
