  • [Question] Clarification (DL Rides ect.)

So it seems I have a whole plethora of misinformation stored in my brain. We are going to be in the park the week of Dec 13th and somewhere I was under the impression park hours at that time are 10am - 8 pm. I was just looking online at the park website and it states that the park hours are 9am - 11pm! I don't know where or why or how I came up with the different times, but it struck me as funny! I am excited to be able to get some extra hours in, especially if the park stays open that late, I can tuck the kids in bed and go have fun on the grown up rides!

Anyway, the question I have is about the Matterhorn. I didn't know there are two sides to it, and I was wondering, what is the difference?

Also being December and really not wanting to get wet, does the Matterhorn splash at the bottom get you wet, and how badly does Splash Mountain soak you?

I hate getting wet, so I will definitely buy a rain poncho or something before we go on it!
    Yaye!

On the Matterhorn, the left side is much rougher than the right. The splashdown at the end will not get you wet, but Splash Mountain sure does.

If you're looking at the mountain from the side where the loading areas are, the track on the left (the "Tomorrowland side") is somewhat rougher than the track on the right (the "Fantasyland side"). You also see the abominable snowman's eyes glowing in the dark near the beginning, whereas the Fantasyland side just has him roaring unseen.

You'll only get a couple of drops at most on the Matterhorn, but Splash Mountain can really drench you pretty well, depending on the weight distribution and where you personally are sitting.

I might have to rob myself the joy of going on splash mountain then, my kids are bigger ninny's then I am about getting drenched!

So the fantasyland side is smoother, but is there any other major differences? Both sides of the ride start in the dark and end up outside right? So I won't miss out on anything if I take one side and not the other?
        Yaye!

Well, one time on Splash, it was late at night and I was alone as my group had turned in. I got paired with a family I did not know and due to their loading procedures for single riders, I got right in the front. To tell you the truth, the final drop is not the worst. There are a couple little ones on the ride and on one of them
          Spoiler
          (the one in the dark)
a wave, or wall of water rolled over the bow of the log and absolutly drenched me. I felt like I was underwater from the chest down for a couple of seconds and had to wring out my socks and pants in the bathroom. Don't underestimate this ride!

However, I love the ride and the theming on it is absoluly superb. The drops are not in any way scary except for the last one which is a bit hair raising, but the artistic brilliance inside and the amazing soundtrack make it a must ride. Consider going on it, its one of the best in the park.

They provide the same basic ride experience - you turn into the mountain, go up a single long lift hill in the dark, turn to one side, and start "bobsledding" down the mountain, passing through caves and along icy ledges outside the mountain, with two encounters with full-on abominable snowman ("Harold") animatronics along the way. It's just that the Fantasyland side is a less physically intense experience, with other small differences (e.g. better views of the crystals, a different second Harold animatronic, etc.). You really aren't missing out on too much if you only do one side, but if you get a chance, it can't hurt to do both!

Awesome, so do they still have the canoe ride or is that one extint? They don't have the mountain climbers anymore right?

The canoes are still there. I'm not sure about the mountain climbers, though...I haven't seen 'em in a long while, personally.

Our last trip in 05 which was our first trip was a disaster, it was Lampoon style, my husband got food poisoning. my daughter was going through a terrified of everything stage, my sister ran away, and we went on It's a Small World 16 times in a row! We didn't get to go on rides or really experience anything, so I am hoping this trip will make up for that!

Yikes! Remember to take care of yourselves on the trip. Lots of sunscreen if its sunny, warm and dry clothes for the evenings and rain, and remember to avoid eating just fast food the whole time. I got very sick one night on the trip and with a few less churros and burgers for the remainder of the trip, and some good self care and rest, the trip was fantastic as I'm sure yours too will be!

The Matterhorn ride on the left is rough, but it is also a little longer than on the right side. Don't worry about getting wet on that one!

Canoes are still running, but sporadic. We rode them during our September visit, but then they were not running Nov 1-3. I guess it depends on the weather and the number of guests in the Park.

Splash Mountain? Yeah, you're going to get wet!

                      Have a great time!

I think the canoes are mostly seasonal, in addition to being dependent on the weather.

Wow, just your luck. I commend you for enduring the adventure.... especially the It's a Small World.

(I think there might be storest in the parks where you can get them, but) I think there are some shops that sell coverups to keep you from getting wet. if not, I suggest doing like I saw one person: a trash bag(tall enough to cover you head to toe).

aside from the possibility of getting wet on the water rides, grizzly river run, splash mountain and matterhorn are actually very fun rides

but with the splash mountain, i've found it that if you're in the front, you get wet.

if you're in the back, not so wet but still get water spots.

but if you're with people who like to splash water at each other, then you're screwed.

As for splash, also never underestimate the water which can come in over the sides on the first drop and the big drop getting anyone wet.

I actually really love that ride, even after 16 times! I love the perspective of it, and I love the idea of it. I was a little bummed to hear they changed it, but I also look forward to seeing what they did to it!

Aside from the fact I am beginning to loath Toy Story more and more, I actually liked the changes in IASM. The characters were on par with those already in the ride and were not plastered about ina way that detracted from the experiance. Do they need to be there? no.. But they are just fine there and I don't blame WDI for having them introduced.
