  • [Question] Were the Mickey Mouse Ear Hats. . .

I just went to Downtown Disney to the World Of Disney store yesterday to buy a Christmas present for my parents. I got my mom a Minnie Mouse ears hat and my dad a Mickey Mouse ears hat. I went to get their names imprinted onto the back, but then the guy said there is an additional $3 for basic, and $7 for premium. I remember going to Disneyland like three weeks back, and when i got a hat from there, the name embroidery was completely free.

So like, has there always been a difference for getting those names on the hats in Downtown Disney, and Disneyland?

    &

If i keep the receipt, the next time we go to Disneyland, can i get their names imprinted then?

I was under the impression that they have been charging for embroidery for a while now.

They started charging for it a few months back to help profits during the recession.

They've been charging embroidery since August 2nd, because I bought a hat that very day and the cashier who I asked, told me they had just started that day.

            Yeah, no more free embroidery!

Well, was it ever "free"? I just figured it into the price...

Whether they just raised the price of the product, or charge for the service that not everyone asked for in the first place, they apparently chose to charge the folks that want it.

So like, even if you purchase that hat and ask for them name on the back at Disneyland, it's no longer free of charge there as well ?

Correct. No more free hat writing anywhere.

Yeah I think it was early this year when they started charging additional fees.

Free embroidery was too good to be true I suppose.

It's been a while since they started. 3 bucks isn't much though. At least in my opinion.

What's the difference between $3 regular and $7 fancy?

Increased selection of colors. Multiple fonts. Solid filled in letters rather than a double-loop of chain stitching. $3 Regular attempts to replicate the look of the old hand crank machines. $7 is the kind of print you would expect to find on writing that you would normally buy on T-Shirts and hats and stuff outside of Disney.

Oh I like that loopy old school way! That's what convinced me to buy the ears was the way the name came out! That is cool that they have more options now though!

i rebel against the $3 charge! however, one pair of ears is enough for me (well i have more than one) but i'm good with my free hand stitched ears. i guess i'm saying i wouldn't pay the $3, but obviously people will still pay because it is such a disney symbol that people will always want them. and for my sister who collects the ear hats...it's getting expensive for her!

Okay, so I'll pay for emboidery, but I got a little tiny mouse ears hat for a friend who just had a baby, and we wanted to put "Sparky" on the hat. (that's what they call the kid) and the lady at the store said, we can only put "Normal" names on hats...

and I'm thinking, normal? what normal anymore? have you seen some of the names people are calling their kids these days.
