Should the Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland receive a full-fledged, themed, and covered queue?

It'd be difficult and probably not worth it if we're talking about a modern-day modification to the existing Disneyland original. But if, hypothetically speaking, Disney were to build a new Matterhorn at another park, I would hope that they'd do a "real" queue. Since the Matterhorn was built in a time before detailed, themed, entertaining queues really became a reality, I can forgive its rather simple (though still thematically appropriate) approach. But for a new Matterhorn, a larger structure (a la the Jungle Cruise, but with an alpine look) would be nice. It could do a really nice job of immersing guests into the setting of the attraction, perhaps with hints of the danger of the abominable snowman. Yes, it'd inevitably end up feeling a bit Expedition-Everest-esque, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

The chalet structure is enough. As Adelade points out, there's not enough room to elaborate any farther.

The queue is appropriate for a bobsled run. It's an outdoor sport on a mountainside, a little wooden structure is all you should have. Besides that, building anything bigger would just make the mountain look smaller and take away from the ride experience.

The area as it stands now is perfectly themed and its design was accepted by the number one imagineer of them all back in 1958 (Walt Disney).

                Deserve, yes.

Though I could easily point out the difficulties and obsticles related to putting it in. Though, if I had to choose to do something to the big mountain, it would be to replace the tracks and cars with new steel to smooth out the ride and get the dueling race effect working on a regular basis.

The track does really need major, major, major modification, and the whole ride just needs some attention to technical aspects. A WDW Space Mountain-type refurb would work perfectly, IMO. Just eight months of complete technical and software overhaul with cosmetic and queue configuration improvements.

That is a unvalid comment IMO. When people say "It was good enough for Walt" it's more like "It was good enough for the budget Walt had to work with"

Tomorrowland 1955 for example "Was good enough for Walt" however it definitely wouldn't be good if it was built today.

Excellent point. Just because Walt did something a certain way doesn't mean it has to be done that way for all time - although he certainly had such an amazing track record that anyone in the theme park industry would be well-advised to know his philosophies inside and out, and study what made his successes so successful.

I think the Matterhorn should have a two story queue simmiler to JC. The long fences around the base of the mountain create a lot of confusion and I feel bad for the poor families that walk through the mess of chain to find out people are just walking past them in the walkway and getting in line ahead of them.

The bigger queue could be themed very simmilarlily and I think it would look really good.

If that were the case, the paths around the mountain could be widened and the actual load areas could be cleaned up and covered.

Yes! They would have to dig below ground but it needs one! It's really annoying to have to walk around the entire east side of the mountain trying to find where the line starts!

This is a good point, they could recess a structure in the ground as though it is a partial basement.

Even though I like the swiss chalet style I think it can be better. I suggest an entrence a bit in front of the challet that takes you down one floor into a basement type of thing that wraps around the entire mountian and comes up again near the front and the line splits IN the Chalet so that there is one line for most of the ride.
OR it can wrap around a building that looks like several buildings or a Ski Lodge kind of thing that is partialy underground so the buildings are smaller but you can still see out.

I also agree that it should get a new line. It is very confusing as it is and its not very appealing. I mean it wraps around the entire mountain. A cool new themed queue would look really great, and be great for that area.

I do not think that Walt would want everything he made to stay the same. I even find myself being sentimental of everything he touched, but he did say himself that Disneyland will never be finished, and i really do not think that he expected or would have wanted all of his stuff to stay as it was in 1966.

So to that, yes, it should get a little touch up done to it. As much as i love the fact that the matterhorn was the first ever steel roller coaster, a referb of the tracks would be really cool. The ride is just so bumpy and the seats offer no coushin that it hurts to ride it. i broke my sunglasses once on the ride because i had them in my side pocket and the ride threw me to the side. I tighten the seatbelt to much now that it nearly hurts.

I like it the way it is. I think it is a pretty Q. And you can people watch, while waiting. So that is nice.

If you tunnel around the mountain, It will start to sink! But really, I dont think that would be very feasable to dig all the way around. Talk about expensive!

Here is how I envision a new structure. It would have to be longer than this though, and set away from the mountain just a little bit more than the current one.

It kinda seems daunting but that is more of a scale issue with the drawing than how it would actually be.

That's a great idea .. however .... it would make the Matterhorn look shorter. (Force Perspective)

Thing about an elaborate queue .. as others already pointed out - no room. One side is a parade route - can't intrude into that narrow corridor ...and the side of Tomorrowland .. also too narrow.

IF imagineering ever attempts a second Matterhorn in another Disney park ..... perhaps a queue that comes in and out of the base of the mountain (AKA) Splash Mountain ..... walking through icy, crystal caves, howling winds .. and a whisper of a creature inside .... getting you into the mood of this "mysterious" snow capped mountain .. and the "errie" things going on inside !!
