  • [Idea] Congested Viewing Areas

the DL nite entertainment is so congested.
I mean if you are 5 feet it must be hard to see the fireworks from the hub or main street. I am 5' 6 and it's really hard from me to see the castle because too many tall people around.
also what the heck is the walkway doing in front of the castle?

    As for Fantasmic!
I think the viewing area sucks if you're short. too many people trying to watch the show and behind that is traffic that's not flowing. They should relocate the show to the backside for ROA and make a amphitheater like the Greeks did. That way everyone sits and can see.

All in all, if you are short (or a child) it must be hard viewing these things since too many tall adults are around.

Part of the coolness that Fantasmic has is that it literally appears out of nowhere, somewhere you had just been earlier. By building an amphitheater specially for the show, that kind of takes away some of the magic (that's just how I see it). I would like for the viewing area to be better arranged somehow, though.

It does not seem that Woc's viewing area will be much better than Fantasmics. They are almost the same from what I can tell. The front boardwalk will be sitting probably, with the area just behind that sitting and the final paths behind that standing. They definetly could be improved but theres not much to do about the congestion.

i like that it pops out of nowhere like you said. but if they have the amphitheater pop out of nowhere also, that's cool.
or at least give us folding chairs. *Snow White the Musical had the CHEAP folding chairs, the ones you buy from swap meet. i felt fine sitting in those.

          Re: Congested Viewing Areas

It's a common criticism of the fireworks shows that they use the Castle as a key element. It causes everyone to want to watch from the same spot.

Disney is the master of crowd control, so they ought to be able to come up with a show that can be enjoyed on an equal basis from multiple viewing areas. I believe they sometimes use It's A Small World in such a manner.

It's likely too late to do anything about Fantasmic! A viewing area in the rear of the Rivers of America is intrigueing actually, however.

            Re: Congested Viewing Areas

i think the obvious solution is to find a spot earlier in the day. It is almost impossible to accomodate 11,000 people for each Fantasmic show and all of them have perfect viewing spots. The same goes for the fireworks.

If you think that it is bad now you should have been there in the first year before they remodeled the area and made some raised areas.

Considering the fact that the ROA wasn't even designed to accomodate a show, it's pretty well done. Sure, it has its problems, but its pretty well done and executed.

You need to do what the Disneyland "regulars" do.
Get a large blanket and "Stake" out a front row viewing spot for the Fantasmic show about 8 hours before the show is scheduled.
So if the show is at 7:30, you should have your blanket out at around 12:30pm.
Now I would never in a million years do this, I find it repulsive but it seems to be the only way one can get a good view, unless you are willing to shell out $50 dollars a person for "Premiere, seating"

personally, im ok with the viewing areas but im just concerned about the shorter kids. uh.. since DLR main target is for kids.

I really enjoy the fireworks from small world and never had any problems with F! but I always blocked the view of the little kids behind me and they just sleep since they can't see anything. oh well.

Part of that, though, is that the visitors to Tokyo DL are very well behaved. Read some trip reports on TDL and TDS, and they all say the same thing - the people in the parks are very courteous and orderly when they are viewing things like parades. It's a natural thing.

Unfortunately there is just no way Anaheim crowds could be that orderly on their own. Everyone wants to get a better spot.

I'm a DL regular... I walk up 5 minutes before show time, maybe even less, and still get a fantastic spot because I know where o look...

Yeah I know what you're talking about but you sacrifice quality for that. My best recommendation would to honestly pay for the priority seating package. It IS worth doing once (sure it was better a long time ago when it was in the Gallery but hey...), food, real chairs, and a short wait are all included. Call the Disney reservation number for further information (I don't remember the price but I want to say $50 per person) 1-781-DINE

Otherwise we could talk showpass *cough*

                              Re: Congested Viewing Areas

                              I'm 5 feet tall and I'm a Dland regular.

I, for most of the time, don't have a problem with viewing fireworks.
Balloons are the worst! Sometimes, kids on people's shoulders sucks.
For fireworks, its in the sky so problem, I just leave a little space in front of me just in case there's tall-ish people. Fireworks, no matter if its Magical, Remember, or the Holiday ones, are my favorite part about Disneyland and I would have such a problem if I can't see them but it's not a problem.

For Fantasmic!, I usually don't care much for except when Murphy debuted. Sitting in the front of RoA, my height doesn't matter because everyone else is sitting. Standing, I try to stand in the back, in the viewing area behind the walkway you would take to get to Critter Country/Haunted. Those steps are raised enough.

I rarely stake out spots and I see fine and I'm pretty short for being 20 years old.

I feel bad for the people in wheelchairs because people don't watch out for them and block their view of the shows.

Aren't they doing Showpasses for WoC?
I believe in pixie dust, little green men, and Disney-freaking-magic!

Yes showpass should be used for Woc. Not confirmed yet but most likely will show up.

Just curious: What happens when you pay for priority seating but then find out the show is cancelled.

How does that roll through? O_o....

                                  ALSO; what is a showpass?

I personally like to wait for the Disneyland shows. I think it adds to the excitement and it sort of feels good once the show starts, enjoying the reward of a great view after waiting for hour(s).

It's basically a required FastPass for the main viewing area. If you don't get one, then you basically are limited to going elsewhere around the lagoon.

Very true, Tokyo guest are very considerate of other guest, even when its very crowded. Which you don't find in Anaheim. Its sad, but its the way it is. Also TDR has very very good crowd control. DLR hasn't had the best in the past few years on Main Street, but last week, I ws impressed it had gotten better. Lets hope it stays that way.
