  • [Chat] high winds this weekend

I know this is late, but beter sooner than later,so.... this weekend has high wind warnings all weekend, it was VERY windy here in Long Beach last night and I can only imagine how the Santa Anas are acting. So don't be dissapointed or upset if the fireworks and even Fantasmic is cancelled, they'll most likely be. Just to let everyone know and everyone aware, have a Disney day

The past 2 nights, it has been pretty breezy here in Anaheim, but the fireworks still went off, but about 10 minutes late. Especially Thursday night. I was really surprised they did not cancel the show. The winds were blowing out of the northeast pretty good, but the show started late. From outside the park, the fireworks were really hauling butt towards the southwest. It made the show look great at least.. Kept the smoke out of the way!

Disney will only cancel the fireworks at the very last minute. They'll do what they can to set them off, though some elements might go MIA like Tinkerbell.

I wouldn't say they'll "most likely" be cancelled. It's hard to predict these things, but I agree that guests should be prepared...
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.

I think a front is moving out, but maybe not a whole lot of wind behind it. Current forecast for tonight from the NWS is West wind about 5 mph becoming calm. So....I'd say chances for tonight look pretty good. Sunday, gusts from the North will be about 10 mph, so that might be more of a problem.

Last night, it was a bit breezy in Anaheim, but not what I would call windy. They came VERY close to pulling the plug on the fireworks, but gave a greenlight at the last possible minute...about 15 minutes late at 9:40. Soooooo glad they let them go after waiting 2 and 1/2 hours on my butt in front of the castle.

typically, disneyland only cancels fireworks if the higher level winds are too high. low level high winds tend to be okay.

once in a while, you'll see white balloons float on up and this is when disney is checking the winds up there to se if its still suitable for fireworks.

They let one go last night and it was moving pretty quick from West to East. I was really surprised. I really thought we were done at that point.

I still have to wonder about the wind DIRECTION. For instance...if the wind is blowing at 15 mph/knots/whatever from the East maybe they pull the plug, but if it's blowing in the opposite direction, it's not such a big deal.

              Anyone know this?

it seems like the launch points of of the fireworks aren't quite centered and are set up to have a certain fallout zone. for that reasoning (not being centered), i guess they have more leeway if its blowing one direction over the other.
