  • [Fun] Take a Paintbrush and a Sledgehammer to Disneyland

Naturally, as a member of MiceChat, I find myself thinking, "If I could just... go there... and... GAH!" (Translation: "If I could just visit the Disneyland Resort when no one is looking in the dark hours of the night I would do a bunch of easy stuff to improve it.")

And I'm sure you do too.

As much as I adore the amount of affection that goes into the resort, there are little things here and there that I would just tackle myself if I had the chance.

    A few older examples included:
-Getting my own spotlight and positioning it to light the center of the then-new Paradise Pier sunburst
-Building my own Hatbox Ghost and installing it in the Haunted Mansion attic

And now, if I had the chance to do it, I'd:
-Figure out some way to light up that Space Mountain asteroid
-Do a fundraiser for a new track and system upgrade for the Matterhorn, as well as many cosmetic changes
    -Get Madame Leota to float
-Make a 3D mannequin and projection to fit it for Constance
    -Plant trees around ToT
-Help speed up paving Paradise Park

I'm sure some other people, including SoCal residents and Annual Passholders, have got a lot more than me!

        ^isn't he still there?

Anyways, I would change on Indiana jones the really fake looking skeletons on the walls when they are "blowing darts at you." I'm not sure if they are supposed to be drawings on the walls in the temple, or actual skeletons (which would be really pathetic). i would replace them with more depth-defined skeletons. It ruins the whole ride for me!

^The clearance is too small on either side to have added three dimensional figures, but otherwise I agree.

Whole thing. Sledgehammer? Ha. Wrecking ball and flamethrower.

Start it all over from the ground up.

Put parking underground. Extend the monorail to the Amtrak train station by Anaheim Stadium.

Make it bigger. Buy out all of Anaheim and really build.

More jobs for SoCal. Economy improves.

I like to think those skeletons are artsy, while the "arrows" are supposed to triggered by something we did (A booby trap - Kinda like the "Don't Step on Diamond Shaped Stones!). You don't know those shoot arrows until you cause them to.

I recall some years ago on another discussion group (alt.disney.disneyland?) a suggestion that they put one of those Donation boxes on the admission ticket that would have a donated dollar specifically designated to go to Imagineering for new attractions.

The current revenue from tickets and AP sales just go into Disneyland's (then Disney's) general coffers and funding is only doled out as corporate management sees fit (and then IF Disneyland wants to allow their allowance to be used for those purposes).

I think all that Disneyland gets for Imagineering specific projects around the park is around $5 million a year. Other major attraction budgets are separate and totally at Disneyland Management's discretion.

If 10% of Disney's guests donated that dollar (AP's could donate $1 each visit), that would be in the range of $1.5 million. While that doesn't sound like a lot, it would not be subject to being hijacked by other Disney projects. So that could at least increase Imagineering's in-park allowance by about 30%.

Definitely would try and get money to stage a Space Mountain-style refurb on the Matterhorn. It should have gotten one for its' 50th anniversary, in my opinion.

                        Other than that:

                        - Dedicate the Hollywood Backlot stage to character greetings with newer characters. The UP characters never got to be out for Meet-and-Greet here, and that's a shame... and I'm pretty sure they'll disappear back into the Disney vault (if they haven't already) when they stop the pre-parade. Combine them with characters from Bolt and Princess and The Frog, and we've got a really good rotating roster of characters (make sure they appear together in groups, that's for sure).

-Repaint the visible Peoplemover tunnels at the entrance of Tomorrowland with a silver color so the dust doesn't show as badly.

-DEFINITELY find a way to make the asteroid show up in Space Mountain.

                        - Are the queue rails as badly chipped at Soarin' as they were when I was there in April? If so, definitely repaint those.

                        - FIX THE LIGHTS ON CALIFORNIA SCREAMIN', especially the ones on the loop! Same with the Maliboomer, and if the Orange Stinger were still here I'd want to fix the neon.

I would change all the springs on the Autopia so that when I push the accelerator so my kid can drive, i don't get a fricken leg cramp. I hate that ride. only because of that spring...oh, and it goes kinda slow.

Demolish Toad, add a Hunchback dark ride in its place.
Demolish Innoventions, add a teleportation-themed dark ride.
Find space in Frontierland for a Jesse James themed dark ride.

Wow, take out Toad? One of the best dark rides in Fantasyland, the one that lets you go to heck! I like Hunchback, but it would fit better in a park like DisneySeas which is a bit less fairytale and more realistic.

No it isn't. Do you think everything that is built underground in southern CA is a "recipe for disaster"?? Also, I've lived in CA my entire life and have only felt 4 earthquakes (and one of those wasn't even in CA). I get the feeling you don't live in CA and, like a lot of people who don't live here, are under the impression that we just have earthquakes every other day that cause buildings to fall over right and left. Thank goodness life isn't a Michael Bay (or Roland Emmerich) movie!
