  • [Fun] Picketing outside and inside Disneyland?

Reading another thread about concern that Main Street Cinema is being closed for a month and if turned into a store, people would riot, got me thinking...

What would happen if a large number of guests decided to picket a Disneyland attraction change, either inside or outside the park?

Obviously, unions and special interests groups have picketed outside Disneyland. But what about guests, what about MCers?

What would stop a large group of us from picketing in front of Main Street Cinemas if Disney decided to turn it into a store? Would we be thrown out? Arrested? Could we carry signs? Would it make a difference?

If it was out of control and loud, people would be asked to leave.

A way to prevent MCer's from picketing would be to create block-out days on the day of a demonstration.

Security. Yes. Maybe. No. Probably not.

Well, something like that did happen on August 6, 1970: http://www.davelandweb.com/yippies/

          1. Inside, you'd be kicked out. Outside, you'd be ignored.
          2. I don't think so. If I were that close to the park, my thoughts would be about getting inside and enjoying myself, especially if it didn't cost nothing to enter.
          3. Nothing could stop you from doing this. However, once you started, you would be stopped.
          4. Yes.
          5. Possibly. Going "Ghandi" would lessen the possibility. Start throwing arms and fists, and I won't be able to bail you out.
          6. Sure. And they would be taken away.
          7. No. Only one thing makes a difference to Disney: the bottom line. Only one thing you (and 900,000 others) can do.

Disneyland is not on public property. If you were inside the park, they would more than likely politely ask you to leave, but they would be within all legal rights to actually have you arrested and prosecuted for tresapassing if you disobeyed their order to leave the premises.

Disneyland is private property. They can stop you from entering with signs, they can force you to disperse if you gather inside the park to picket, they can arrest you. They can't stop you from picketing outside the park, on city property, but the police can step in if you cause traffic problems or create an unsafe situation.

                Couldn't said it better myself.

The short version, stay out of the resort if you want to picket.

                    Eight Words.

Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Walt Disney World. 1998.

And that was an actual attraction. A protest over the Cinema would be met with nothing more than deaf ears.

The park is private property. They set the rules, and you agree to abide by them when you enter.

If you start any kind of group protest, some nice, young, cute, petite female CM with a world-class winning smile (think Tinkerbell) will ask you to stop. If you don't stop, the next request will be a little more definite, and come from the guys we used to call "Snow Drops." If you persist, within a couple of minutes you would find yourself outnumbered by CM, Snow Drops and probably a few people you thought were guests, who will move in gently to get your attention.

If you force them to the next step, you will be physically restrained and get a special "Backstage at the Magic Kingdom" tour. If you are one of those they identify as instigators, you will be handed to Anaheim PD for booking and prosecution, while the others will probably be evicted after getting photographed, fingerprinted and told never to return.

This is what they did when there were attempts to disrupt things back during the anti-war and anti-just-about-everything era of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

There was a recent demonstration on Disneyland property. Reverend Billy in 2005 (starts about four minutes in):

                            [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL9MBhQk25c"]YouTube- Broadcast Yourself.[/ame]

If only all demonstrations could be this orderly.

You'd be asked to leave and if you didnt comply you'd be beaten like Rodney King.
