  • [Idea] Big Thunder Mountain Halloween Makeover Idea

So I was thinking about another ride that could have a halloween concept during Halloweentime.

Space Mountain joined in with Ghost Galaxy which, IMO is a big step for Disneyland to compete in the Halloween Market.

Now, I was thinking of Big Thunder Mountain. A haunted mine, a posessed mine train, perfect for a halloween makeover!

    I would call it:

    BIG THUNDER: Haunted Caverns

By day, it's the same ride, but at night, the mountain transforms into something scary!

The idea would be that the curse that plagued the mountain got stronger and brought back miners from the dead. It also darken the caverns so the 1st and 3rd lifts are in complete darkness. In the third lift, there would be a projection of a ghost that warns the riders of the curse and to return to Rainbow Ridge before it's too late. Unfortunatley for the riders, the town is now overidden with the ghost miners as they try to grab them as they return to the station. For the goat scene, the goat could be removed and in it's place, a light on the spot with smoke rising from it. Indicating that the goat exploded. For the first action area (between the first and second lifts, ghost miners could be projected in place of real actors to simulate that they just awakened.

What do you think? Could this be on par with Knotts Scary Farm? Would this work.

THIS IS AWESOME! I would love to see this happen! The question is, how would you get the goat out of the attraction as day falls to night? And also, I would love to see the smoke, and the lights, but to add to that, keep the goat bleeting sound at night.

Easy. Just close the ride around 4pm and reopen it at 7pm. It should take 3 hours to activate the layover and make the goat easy to remove with a cleverly themed crane. If that can't be done then the goat should have a scary look similar to the Cursed Pirates in the first Pirates movie.

Well I love the idea, but it has a major flaw, and that is capacity:

HalloweenTime is only a month. Look at the extremely successful Ghost Galaxy. It was open all day and always had a 2 hour wait. You are talking about a partial overlay plus closing the ride? It's not going to work.

The overlay would have to be for the entire month, day and night. There is no way around that.

While true, remember that Disney was thinking about Rockin Space being a night thing only and then eventually decided to have it all day.

What is different between Space and Big Thunder is the fact that while Space is indoors, Big Thunder is outdoors and the scare factor is best at night.

Big Thunder's vehicles have a larger capacity than Space Mountains rockets. With a 5-train operation, the line can go faster.

They can add the overlay during Labor Day weekend and have the transformation go from 4PM-6:30PM.

Why close it for hours just to remove the goat? Just remove the goat completely during Halloween. It's only a month. It could even have a more flexible prop in its place.
