  • News New advanced Bing Maps at DLR

Microsoft's Bing Maps has just released a much improved version of their maps site. So far, it seems even more awesome than it was. There are smooth transitions from aerial to bird's eye, plus it has a kind of street view (like Google has) which works pretty well.

If you currently use Google Maps to look at Disneyland, try using Bing Maps, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

There's Bing maps? Wow that's a pretty original idea Microsoft. And why does it take so long to load?

Anyways, I'm just waiting for what they did to Legoland (Street View) to come to Disneyland. That's all I care about...

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

Bing Maps has been out for a few years. This is a new version. A complete street view would be cool at DLR, but Bird's Eye trumps anything Google has. This new beta improves that quite a bit. AND it adds street level photo views for some of DLR, something Google doesn't have yet.

Talk about outdated, the subs were half-way into the construction and TSMM construction hasnt even started.

Very interesting, I actually hadn't seen this beta yet. Thanks for posting! I'm now in the process of submitting, like, five separate pieces of feedback...suffice it to say that while this beta has some very cool features, I would be quite alarmed if they were to make the switch without some major alterations.

Try the bird's eye - it's the reason Bing rules. Nemo is open, TSMM is nearly finished.

Of course you'd have specific requirements. Now I'm curious what your feedback is.

Re: New advanced Bing Maps at DLR

Let's see if I can remember...

                      * The 3D functionality is gone, although I'd imagine this isn't a permanent omission.
                      * The Silverlight technology allows really fun, fluid motion through the different "bird's eye" aerials, but it's terrible if you're trying to just study one single aerial. Panning or even just zooming frequently causes the beta to switch to another photo in an attempt to give you a better angle. Since both approaches have their uses, I'm suggesting that the current beta approach should be the default, but the other should also be an option. I like being able to control exactly which photo I'm looking at.
                      * I can't figure out how to turn off the labels on the streets and so forth. That was easy before.
                      * The buttons have been moved from the top left to the bottom center. This seems like a pointless move - makes life difficult for longtime users, and doesn't do anything to help new users.
                      * In Help, the FAQ and search functions don't work.

I'm not a complainer, but since it is a beta and they do want feedback and I do use Bing Maps very frequently, why not speak my mind?

EDIT: These are paraphrased and condensed from memory, mind you.

Re: New advanced Bing Maps at DLR

The biggest problem I have with Bing maps is that when you reach the edge of the imagery and keep scrolling, it takes forever to load new images -- and then when it does, it pulls images from a completely different timeframe! You can be scrolling along in Bird's Eye View, and then suddenly all the pictures change to imagery from years earlier and at a different angle. It's disconcerting to say the least, and it makes it very difficult to get your bearings.

                          Ugh... Silverlight.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Wow, the backstage views are extremely clear compared to google maps.

As I noted in my post above, I have some issues with how it was implemented in this beta, but I think Silverlight in general is cool...what's your beef with it, if you don't mind my asking?
