Here's my review of 2009 Candlelight Processional

I arrived at the park on Saturday around 11am. Already all the bench seating was taken. I overheard a cast member saying that the policy for holding seats was that each person can only hold one seat. So for a party of 2, one person must stay there to hold a seat. For a party of 3, two people must stay, etc.

On the right side of the hub, near City Hall, people started lining up in the streets a little before 3pm. Lots of people laying down blankets.
On the left side of the hub, near Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, people had to wait until the 3:30 parade moved out of the area before they could start camping in the streets.

Around 4pm, Jon Voight came out and did a quick rehearsal. Walking up to the podium and getting familiar with the stage. Afterwards he came down to the right side of the hub and walked the entire length around the roped off area, greeting, shaking hands, and taking photos with all the people who had been waiting. Everyone in my area commented how this was a nice of him.

The Candlelight processional started at 5:30 with the cast member choir and the rest of the choirs moving down Main Street. They slowly filled in areas on stage. Jon Voight read the Christmas Story from the book of Luke.

It was a really great program. Seeing the trumpeters on the top of Main Street Railway was awesome!

Jon Voight ended the night thanking the choir, conductor, and everyone else who put the program together. Finally he pointed up to Heaven and thanked his mother. He asked her to say "Hi" to Walt, and to thank him for all of this, and to also wish him a Happy Birthday.

This ended the first performance. Afterwards, cast members cleared out the entire hub area including the benches and the streets. They started a line extending down Main Street towards the castle for people who wanted to see the second show. Around 7:20pm they started letting people back in to the section, first to the benches, and then to the streets.

They started the 2nd show at 8pm. Nothing significant was different between the two shows.

Here are my photos from the entire Candlelight Processional.

Also, if you have friends or family who were up on stage, let me know and I can look through my photos and see if I can find them for you.

It was really neat to finally see it, after hearing about it all these years. I was walking with friends who were leaving and I was telling them about the event. Just after I said Join Voight was narrating, we looked to our left and saw him shaking hands in front of City Hall. After walking with my friends to the gates, I decided to say goodbye to them and stay for the show. I ended up sitting/standing in front of City Hall, it wasn't the greatest view (because I was so far off to the side), but it wasn't bad for an hour before the show!

        Great pictures, thanks for sharing!!

                  Gorgeous pics!
We were so impressed by Mr Voight coming out to shake hands with the crowd. My daughter was the little girl who he talked to and signed an ornament for. He was so kind to her! Your photos came out so much better than ours did!

It was a wonderful night that we feel blessed to have been able to share!

Thanks for all the great comments and praise. As some other people have said, I was also very impressed with Jon Voight coming down and greeting everyone who was waiting. Here's a few more photos just showing what a great guy he is.

I have a Canon Rebel XTi. I was using the 70-200 f/2.8 IS for the most part. Some shots might have the 2x extender on it. I also used the Canon 10-22 for some of the closer shots.

It was a wonderful show! Sitting their since 8am yesterday was well worth it. The association, sharing of food, and stories. Jon is a class act. You could tell he cared for Disneyland with all of heart. He was honored by narrating. His tribute to his mother and Walt was amazing.

                      Merry Christmas!

I was there Sat. night, but at the other end of main street, and as soon as the carolers went by I headed to Fantasyland... didn't want to fight the crowds. Beautiful pictures! Thank you so much. John Voight was the perfect person to do this. He LOVES Disneyland and Walt! I know this for a fact! You are so lucky to be able to attend.
I myself was at The Walt Disney Family Museum in San Fransisco for an intimate afternoon chat with three Disney Legends, Richard Sherman, Rolly Crump and Blane Gibson and also Ron Miller and Diane Disney Miller on Walt's on 108th birthday Sharing their most personal stories about Walt the man, mentor and friend. What an amazing time it was. The museum also Showed Christmas With Walt narrated by Diane. It you live up there in the bay area or are coming this way for the holidays, stop by the WDFM, at 104 Montgomery in the Presido and see this wonderful film and partake of all the Family Museum has to offer. You won't be disappointed. It is a National Treasure.

I just got in from Sunday's early show. As always, one of the most precious and beautiful spectacles in the world.
There as nothing anywhere in Disneyland as breathtaking as that first moment as all of Main Street and the town square go totally dark and the hundreds of candle bearing choristers begin filling up the steps on Min Street Sation's steps.
This was a great year for Candlelight, and I already eagerly await next years event.
                                        Thanks for the lovely pictures!
