  • [Pictures] A Weekend Wandering the Park...

Uncle Walt and I share something in common. A birthday. Ok, a few years apart but still its kind of cool to have been born on the same day.

My husband doesn't like Disneyland, but he's nice enough to let me run away for my birthday and spend the weekend there. Sort of his present to me.

One of the things I feel most fortunate about, is the fact that while I don't get to go all the time, I do live close enough that I am able to make several trips a year. So doing a solo trip is actually a relaxing, enjoyable thing, as I can ride things if I want, or just sit on a bench and watch the world go by without having to stress about trying to see and do everything in a limited amount of time.

I spent a day and a half just wandering Disneyland (didn't go near DCA this time), and thought I'd share a few of the pictures I took while there.

Arriving around 8:30 AM on Saturday, lines were extremely light.

Won't be looking at these much longer.... maybe....

The Main Street station was set up for Candlelight.

I love being in the park first thing in the morning. Being one of the first ones in gives you some advantages.

How often do you see NOS like this?

    Pirates... walk on.

    Haunted Mansion... walk on.

But I knew it was early and because of Candlelight Processional that evening, it was only a matter of time before the park became crowded. But might as well enjoying while I could.

I love NOS this time of year. The decorations are beautiful!

So much to see, so much color and visually exciting!

Even the Twain was decked decked out in colors for the Tiana's Showboat Jubilee.

And I have never, ever been able to get any decent pictures on Pirates with my little point and shoot camera... but somehow, this one actually almost worked.

Next up, some pictures of random wandering around the park....

    I love morning visits!
personally, fantasyland is my favorite land in the morning. it's so nice being able to walk through the courtyards without seeing a barricade of strollers lining the fences and sides of buildings!

I wish I was able to get to the park more often. I'm guessing I live closer than 80% of the people on this forum and still only get to go once every year or so. Especially for the reason you describe, it's such an awesome feeling/atmosphere/energy/calmness/etc to be there with little crowding. If for nothing other than to enjoy the beautiful park that Walt imagined so many years ago sitting in another beautiful park. I don't think there is any other urban setting that evokes such emotion or calmness at the same time. It's familiar in smell, sight and sound and at the same time brings together all things fun. However, I can't stand to be at DL when it is crowded... the rude and ruthless go getters trying to get the most out of their visit. I can't say I wouldn't do the same but I just can't stand the rudeness.

Been an AP holder for years but I haven't dragged myself out of the sack early enough to be there for park opening in probably a decade.

I'll have to rectify that error and go snap some shots myself sometime. Excellent shots!

Thanks for the comments so far!

I'm no fan of the park crowded either, but I try to remember that even when I'm there on a busy day, at least I'm there... I'm not at work, I'm not home having to look at laundry and such... even surrounded by thousands of people, for a few hours I can escape from the realities of everyday life. Even if all I'm doing is walking up and down main street.

I think the more I see HMH, the more I think I do enjoy both versions. But I still am partial to the original.

It was mostly cloudy the entire weekend I was there. I was loving it because I personally love gray, cloudy days, but it does make for some challenging lighting situations trying to take pictures.

My daughter found this one amusing. With the angle I took it at, she noticed it looks like Jack is pulling the snowflake out of his nose! Its those little details that count when taking pictures.

And speaking of details, I try when I'm there alone and not running amok to notice little things I don't usually see. Disneyland, unlike many other parks is all about the little details.

Harold always gets his popcorn machine picture taken, but how often do you see this little guy?

Its now coming up on 10:00 AM and still the lines are not bad.

There is something about just taking your time in the park (and sometimes going solo is the best).
Walking around, siting on the bench and watching the world.
It's one of the reasons I go...it's just so relaxing.
                  Love the NOS pics!!

I LOVE quiet cloudy days. We just wander around, taking in all the details and people-watching, it's fantastic.

Pengy - What a GREAT way to spend your Birthday! While I always enjoy your collage threads, I really love this thread as I get to see more of your photos individually and with more detail. You really have a marvelous eye when it comes to photography! Excellent job of nailing an empty New Orleans Square on a busy, busy weekend. It really paid off to get up early and to be one of the first souls in the park rather than joining the throng at the Wonderful World of Disney. I really love how you set up this shot:

I'm looking forwards to many, many more shots from you!

jcman3777, its the angle. Yes all the HMH stuff was still there.

Ok just a couple more before I head to work, then more when I get home later!

This one is for Barbara, who loves Jiminy Cricket!

And while much of the rest of the country is under a blanket of snow or freezing weather, we still have blooming flowers!

Thanks. Jiminy is indeed my favorite. How lucky can a girl get? A trip report from a favorite MiceChatter, and she mentions you by name, and takes a photo especially for you.

Wonderful pics! I've never gotten the chance to experience any of the parks during the holiday season, so I'm always thrilled to see pictures of some of the lesser-photographed thematic touches Disneys sprinkles about.

                                Thanks a bunch for sharing!

Oh, and Happy Birthday as of last Saturday!

I was looking at the pics and thinking "wow finally a non crowded TR"... then I realized how early it is. It's fun to see the short lines, here's hoping it wasn't too crowded later on (TR is still in progress).

I'm hoping that in your varied wanderings you found time to visit my beloved Jungle. I really miss that place...
