[Chat] Crowd Differences: Christmastime vs. Post-Christmas Time

I'm trying to plan a date to go to Disneyland with a friend and I was hoping to someone would know the answer - is Disneyland going to be just as ridiculously crowded after the holiday decorations go down as it was with the decorations up?

We've seen the crazy crowds a couple weeks ago - and it was far from pretty, so, would it be better if we went, say....between January 4th and January 10th?

The Blocked Out Passholders will FLOCK to the parks once the blackout dates are lifted...Considering most A.Per's are blocked except P.A.P during the holiday season, the parks are going to be crazy. If you can arrange your visit to a day that blocks out most A.P holders you'll avoid: 1. Parking in the Buzz lightyear lot--far,far,far,,,,,, Huge wait times for attractions. Have fun..

This is just a hunch, but I think midweek from Jan 3 - 10 should be pretty sparse. The decorations really do come down pretty quick, the refurb walls go up, the park hours are reduced, and the crowds generally go down. I think it would be a much better time to go if the decorations aren't a big motivating factor for you. I really think you'll have about HALF of what you would be facing the week prior. Monday the 4th might still be crowded, but after that, the crowds should really fall off. Keep in mind that the park hours will drop to 10 AM - 8Pm M-Th.

As for the APs, most of the kids will be back in school, so I really don't think they will show up in droves.

If you can wait until 12/28 to make your decision, there will be more information on how crowded the parks will be this year at Christmastime.

The economy might cause a drop in attendance by tourists, who either don't come to SoCal or come to SoCal but skip DL.
And do note that there are two types of holiday-time tourists: those with family obligations and those that come voluntarily.
The former come to SoCal because hey have to, and depending on finances may or may not visit DL.
The latter may not be as large a group as in past years.

The other unusual twist this year is that there will be a second game at the Rose Bowl on 1/7, and the two teams' fans will likely follow them here. That first week of school in January might have slightly elevate crowd levels, wearing a crimson red or a burnt orange.
