  • [Fun] If Ghost Galaxy Came Back

Yeah, I know. Way to rain on your holiday cheer. But I was just pondering this, goodness knows why, and I had to post a thread.

I would be extremely happy if Space Mountain's Ghost Galaxy overlay returned next year. Because of its popularity, I'm guessing it will. I was just thinking it was interesting because we've seen new things added to HMH, and ISAWH is amazing. There has to be something new next year.

Ghost Galaxy was spectacular and a worthy overlay and I greatly enjoyed it, but we all know it could have used a bit of extra care. My guess was they didn't go all out because Disney really didn't know how the American crowd and kids would react to the experience. Remember hearing all those rumors of it being "less frightening" than its HKDL counterpart, and remember all those "This attraction may be FRIGHTENING for children" signs? Yeah. But it was a success. This is why I wonder if they had a few tricks up their sleeves that they were just waiting to save until they had confirmation that GG was successful.

    My questions are:

-What do you think of my theory?
-Do you think Ghost Galaxy could come back with some plussing?
-What could they add to "plus" the overlay?

Sorry for the random Scroogeness of this thread.

Re: If Ghost Galaxy Came Back

    1. I think your theory is correct, it will come back and it may be plussed in some way. Whether that way is big or small, I don't know.
    2. Yes, I'm almost sure it will come back. Do I want it to come back without plussing? No.
    3. To make the ride worthy of coming back, it needs:
    -New soundtrack
    -No "spotlights" on the effects
-Better CGI on the effects, it looked a bit cheap to me

    Those are my ideas =]

Ill be honest, I hated the ghost galaxy overlay. I was expecting way more, especially for the 70 min wait. I know its Disneyland, but add some things that are going to jump out and surprise you! I know we have to keep the children in mind, but again like this year they had "signs" posted before hand.

Re: If Ghost Galaxy Came Back

If I were involved in a 2010 version of Ghost Galaxy, my biggest priority would be getting the projection surfaces to appear truly black wherever Bob wasn't. I've heard a lot of people comment on how visible the screens and whatnot were, and I agree. If that issue were fixed, I'd feel a lot more positive about the whole thing. I'd also appreciate a new musical score - I don't like how the score uses orchestral-sounding synths, and there's no repeated musical idea to tie the whole thing together. Giacchino's soundtrack for the normal version of the attraction gets it right: use an orchestra for orchestral sounds, use synths for synthy sounds, and write at least one musical theme to give the whole thing cohesion. Obviously, the score to Ghost Galaxy should sound very different, but it can still follow those guidelines. I will say that I like the beginning quite a bit, though. Those dissonant horn swells are effective. But once the synth violins kick in, it's all downhill from there. Just my opinion...no offense to Ed Kalnins.

Oh, and I would totally geek out if the new musical score contained a subtle, twisted quote of either the theme Giacchino wrote or some part of "Aquarium." :yea:

I enjoyed the Ghost Galaxy Overlay (It was much, much better than the rock n' roll overlay). So I'm sure that we will see it again next year. I would guess that they will not be pulsing it one year after, but maybe down the road.

Make the station line part a little more creepier, the front screen was kind of cool with the error messages and stuff but they could do more, maybe some moans and groans, station lights flickering, and then polish up the effects in the actual ride. It's a very cool attraction and it can only get better with attempts of improvement...

The ghosts on flat screen TVs were pretty cheesy. I hope they improve the technology by then.

They need other effects than projectors, like sudden bursts of cold air when Bob shows up. Also, I'd like them to make use of that unlit asteroid near the top:

Finally, it needs a soundtrack that actually matches the track. The one they used sounds off-the-shelf and lacks excitement.

For sure help the walkthrough area. If I'm going to wait 80 minutes for it, make it worth while! Add lighting effects, sound effects, maybe add a little mini-show on the TVs as you walkthrough. I love this overlay and it should continue!

I agree about the soundtrack. I found parts of it off a website where you can get free production music. :\

Would you mind posting or PMing me a link, if you've still got it? I found an induction recording someone did, and it sounds pretty good - sorry, I hypocritically no longer have that link ) - but I'd be curious to hear it from other, cleaner sources. Unless you were making a sarcastic jab at its generic sound, in which case never mind.

Ghost Galaxy should come back....but it nees to be better.
                        First of all better graphics.
Second needs to be more scarier.
Finally they also need to change the image on the fastpass...

personally. Make it creepy n scary. besides I see more adults then kids at DLR.it's not like any little kids ride this. (plus if it's scary, little kids won't wanna ride it) shorter lines

turn off all the lights in the indoor queue and turn it into a creepy maze with ghosts popping out of no where.

                          as for the ride-
                          add a fog effect
                          scary music
                          water effects
                          real ghosts(people) chasing you

Remember... life's no fun without a good scare. and we need to clone the HKDL Halloween parade.

Indoor rollercoasters are rockin', and that's why I like looking at pictures of Space Mountain with the lights on! You see, when you're on the rocket, they make the ride dark on purpose (so it will scare you). But me? I never get scared on that ride any more (I only get curious, you see!). I always wondered what was inside there (and what kept making that rumbling sound!). I like the way the floors vibrate. 'Don't know much about Ghost Galaxy.

I actually thought the soundtrack, off the shelf or cheesy or not, was pretty fun and worked well. Though I must agree, those synth strings killed me. Astroid definitely needs to be lit in some form. Blacklight, anything. Just light it up!

I thought it would be cool if at the very end, on the second-to-last turn until the re-entry tunnel, they would start two screens on either side of you that twisted all the way to the left turn, with a Bob projection at the end. The effect would be something like this: Giant, ghostly hands appear in front of you, and you turn the corner, only to see Bob himself pulling, twisting you toward your celestial doom! As the Galaxy Ghost follows you around the left turn, you turn straight into his galaxy eye and it's Bob's end when he bursts in a spectacular explosion of color (and a photo op).

I thought the music was the weakest part of the overlay. Too subdued, it pales in comparison to the usual score.

I also agree it would be nice to have the projections blend into the blackness a little better, the way they're surrounded by light diminishes the immersiveness of the attraction.

But I wouldn't hold my breath for Disney to plus Ghost Galaxy in any way. It appeared to be a huge draw is is was, and I'm skeptical they'll spend any money to improve the experience as a result.

The line was the biggest thing for me as well.

There is a ghost attacking the station and the comm chatter is the same normal chatter that's been going on since 1977? How about mixing in things going wrong? How about the safety spiel getting interrupted? Maybe some sound effects of things moving behind the walls.

The line should definitely be more haunted!
