[Question] Aladdin Questions

So I went to watch Aladdin the other day at DCA, since I know it won't be there much longer and I found myself wondering lots of things. Ain't curiosity beautiful?:thumbup:

1. Does the Genie improv?
[Explanation: Something happened in the scene where Aladdin and Jasmine are on the magic carpet, and the show stopped for a bit, and the Genie came in holding the lamp, once the show had restarted of course, and was "tweeting" on the lamp "The show broke, I fixed it. I didn't like that song anyway." or something along those lines. It was hilarious.]
2. Is the cast all secret-y like characters, or is it like a play where there is a cast list?
[Explanation: The past few times I have gone, the same person has played Iago. Lets just say I have a little crush. :blush: Although, I'm pretty sure he's playing for the other team. Anyway, I was just wondering who it is.]
3. Do they do the casting for the show when they cast for everything else, or is a separate thing entirely?
[Explanation: Ummmmm...... I'm really not sure why I was thinking about that.]

1.The Genie does do Improv in a way that the jokes are probably scripted for a short time. that's what made the show awesome, the Genie's jokes changed depending on what was happening in the work.
2. The cast is secret. I know Aladdin is played by Aladdin, Jasmine played by Jasmine, and the Genie played by Robin Williams.

1. Yes, the Genie does improv. I've seen parts where if a baby is crying in the audience, he will make a joke about it, or like you saw, if the show has technical difficulties, he will make a joke when the show restarts.

Not really sure about the other questions.

2) I believe the cast are hired as Disney employees. I've seen audition notices on Disney's job board before. I've seen videos of certain cast members before, in fact I think one of them was an actor that played Iago. Do a search, check it out!

I think it is a little more than a "little crush". She says that she is crushing on him every time we see the show, which is quite often. )

that first one with the twitter, it was the same joke when i saw it but more genie tweeting "song is over, and carpet is really tired." and then i tweeted that genie was tweeting :lol:

oh and yes he does, because in that same show when aladdin broke his promise to set genie free, a mom and kid were walking out (bathroom?) and then genie was saying "see aladdin, you're being a jerk, you're making the audience leave!" then aladdin said "she just taking her kid out!" then there was a pause, and then got back to their lines. but yes it was pretty obvious that part was an improv

Your question about the names of the Cast Members is interesting, because I think in the early days of the show there used to be a cast list posted outside the Hyperion with the names of the actors, and possibly even headshots? It's definitely not there any more though. Probably either to preserve the magic, or the privacy of the actors.

well i would think an actor would want to be exposed to the world, but for the sake of the kids, i think they would want them to believe that aladdin is aladdin and jasmine is jasmine

I am going to miss aladdin, It never got boring to me and the genie was so entertaining, I will also miss the cuteness of Princess Jasmine, and the carpet "Come to think about it I might of liked her because she never talked. jk

The Genie definately improvs so if the audience encourage him ie hoots and cheers,, he will expand and it makes things funnier!!! I know I cheer him on but one time it was someone different and not so funny
