Have heard ramblings from diffeent people that they feel a Mary Poppins theme park attraction is long overdue. I certainly share this concern. With the technology and eye-popping effects of today, the characters and settings in the movie could brought to life... big time!

What's more, the pimary actors Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews are alive, well and working in the movie industry. Their career longevity is amazing to say the least! Dick and Julie could easily do voiceovers for their respective characters in any theme park attraction genra.

Enjoy a cup of tea and some jolly holiday crumpets while pondering the notion as to what type of Mary Poppins themed attraction that envision and would like to see at Disneyland Resort... and perhaps other Disney parks.

A pole is up... so is my umbrella.

One challenge would be the fact that Mary Poppins was mostly live acting. It seems easy to create a ride based on pure fantasy, like Peter Pan, but live acting presents different challenges.

Certainly, Indy was live acting, and that ride is very successful. Maybe it could be built something like Indy.

I guess make the vehicles fly under unbrellas, and sort of go through the story, scene by scene.

        Interesting idea.

Would love to see a Mary Poppins live musical stage show, MostExalted... far more than the coming Toy Story - The Musical... even though I look forward to the new show.

Thanx for the compliment, Rob. Love your ideas, too. a magical free-wheelin' Indy-style ride in a big family sized EMV (Enhanced Motion Vehicle) jelopy would be way cool... as would as vehicles that each have an umbrella or a kite hanging from an inverted Peter Pan or coaster like track.

Actually, Phillip... I'm just like you. That's why i was just about too excited to type up this thread. hee hee

If th truth be known, I would be happy to see any type of a Mary Poppins attraction. Love the uber-magical and timeless film. Plus, Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke deserve to be honored in their lifetimes.

          Jolly Holiday

Performed by: Bert (Dick Van Dyke), Mary Poppins (Julie Andrews)
Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman

          Ain't it a glorious day?
Right as a mornin' in May
I feel like I could fly'
          Ave you ever seen
          The grass so green?
          Or a bluer sky?

          Oh, it's a jolly holiday
          With Mary
Mary makes your 'eart so light
          When the day is gray
          And ordinary
Mary makes th sun shine bright!

          Oh 'appiness is bloomin'
          All around 'er
          The daffoldils are smilin'
          At the dove
          When Mary 'olds your 'and
          You feel so grand
          Your 'eart starts beatin'
          Like a big brass band
Oh, it's a jolly holiday with Mary
No wonder that it's Mary that we love!

          Now then what'd be nice
          We'll start with raspberry ice
And then some cakes and tea
          Order what you will
          There'll be no bill
          It's complimentary

          Oh, it's a jolly holiday
          With you, Bert
          Gentlemen like you are few
          Though your just a diamond
          In the rough, Bert
          Underneath your blood is blue!

          You'd never think of pressing
          Your advantage
          For bearance is the hallmark
          Of your creed
          A lady needn't fear
          When you are near
Your sweet gentility is crystal clear!
Oh, it's a jolly holiday with you, Bert
A jolly, jolly holiday with you!

They were working on a concept for a Mary Poppins ride in the 70s. Using the horses from the "Jolly Holiday" sequence ... as the ride vehicle.

I never saw the concept artwork for it.

Usually ... Disney unveils attractions concepts that never happened .. like to the Disney Gallery, or any one of their many publications.

So .. the fact it's never surfaced .. tells me ... it's probably an idea they may still develop some day.
            MY SIGNATURE:
Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

This is very encouraging news, Tomorrowland! ouldn't be a bit surprised to see an attraction "pop" up at Disneyland, DCA, or even the rumored third gate. Again, the technology exists to create one magic-packed 'appining attraction.

Riding carrousel type horses (like in the movie) through a dark ride would be Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious bar none!

Of course, a spoon full of sugar would help the medicine go down if specially themed ride vehicles were included for the the handicapped...and for those that don't like to "horse around" so much.

I absolutely agree! Mary Poppins is one of Disney's bests and should definitely deserve something.

Re: Mary Poppins Themed Attraction Genra That Would Be Your Cup Of Tea

I'd love to see something between the scales of Peter Pan and Pirates. It wouldn't need to be a fifteen-minute-long audio-animatronic extravaganza, but I think that doing it on the scale of Fantasyland dark ride would be a little too limiting. When you really think about it, there are so many scenes that would work well in the attraction. Many of the major musical numbers are just begging for dark ride treatmnet - "A Spoonful of Sugar", "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious", "Step in Time", "Let's Go Fly a Kite"...they could really be marvelous. Naturally, a lot of stuff would have to be cut...you'd have to really cut it down to the core of what Mary Poppins its, but it could work wonderfully.

And yes, this idea is certainly nothing new.
