  • [Fun] CAPTAIN EO: Did Disney invent the Borg?

Just a silly thought I had while watching a bootleg of Captain EO, has anyone else noticed that the villans in Captain EO bear a striking resemblance to the Borg and the Borg queen of Star Trek the Next Generation?

I think it's very possible people over at Paramount studios got some inspiration for the Borg from Captain EO. "EO" is from 1986. While "ST:Generations" was introduced to television in the fall of 1987. And the Borg do make their world debut in the episode "Q, who?" in the spring of 1989 - in the show's second season.

But .. I always thought .... as the Evil Queen's world is very reminiscent of the environment of a Borg cube ship. And of course ... the queen herself .. with all the hoses that connect up to her.

And the "whip warriors" are connected into the walls for their live support systems ... very much like a Borg drone Alcove.

Even the wikipedia page links the concept of the Borg with Captain EO.

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.

Denial - as resistance - is futile.

Now I'm really afraid to watch Captain EO if it ever comes back. The BORG give me nightmares, I can imagine Captain EO will also.

Hmmm.... interesting. I've never been a fan of the Borg but I have to admit now that I think about it the similarities are kind of eerie. Particularly as the Borg underwent a very big makeover between what the original concept was and what they eventually went with. The original concept was worm like insects that possessed humans by lodging themselves in the spinal column. The last episode of season one introduced them but after the writer's strike they came back in season two with a totally different species.

GrouchyRob, dont worry, Michael quickly transforms the "Borg Drones" by undoing their mechanical implants, and giving them colorful Shoulder pads, big 80's hair and, and pegged pants...
