[Chat] recognizing other MCers at the park

so ive been thinking lately, how is it that so many people are able to recognize/meet other micechatters when theyre at the park? is it just when you see someone else completely decked out in disney gear with their pin covered lanyards and APs hanging proudly from their neck that you can just assume theyre a member on micechat? haha im just really curious as to how the whole process works.

ive just seen it in a lot of different threads and trip reports about how people see fellow MCers at dland. i mean i know theres the sunday meetings in the hub every week, so is that how you come across other members? and then just recognize them again later? or is it striking up a conversation with someone in line for an attraction and finding out that they too are a member? or maybe just bumping into someone and recognizing them from their avatar pic?

i think it would be really cool to meet some of the members here in real life some time but unfortunately its hard for me to make a sunday trip most of the time. i know im still pretty new here and have just recently become more of an active poster so i doubt other MCers would recognize me when im there but as time goes on id hopefully like to meet a lot of you.

but ya so, tell me about the whole process of meeting a fellow micechatter or any personal expierences you have had making new friends

I recognize people by the pictures they post around the boards. Also, if you aren't able to make a Sunday meet often, you can always come up with your own meet, set a date, and post a thread to see if anyone can go. A poll for those kind of threads work great.

Some people, esp. ones who live near the park, know each other from before MiceChat. Some have gotten to know others by making it to meets when ever possible. And a lot of times, I suspect people are recognized by their pics in reports or their avatar.

I know since becoming a part of MiceChat, I seldom go to the park without running into someone I know. Last summer I was down for three days, and each day seemed to run into someone I knew from here. But these are people I've gotten to know over the years just from being a part of the site, and being able to attend meets when I can. Its kind of weird sometimes.... I live 110 miles away and at any given time when I'm in the park can usually spot someone from MiceChat I know or recognize!

And we have run into people in line. A couple of years ago I was in line on Pirates with Princess Buttercup and her family, and some people in line heard us talking about MiceChat and... they were MiceChatters too!

Occasionally there are random meets that don't happen on Sundays. The anniversary coming up we'll be doing meet ups on Friday night and Saturday. But you're off to a great start! Just keep hanging out, getting to know people, and if you happen to be at the park and see someone you recognize from a trip report, don't be afraid to walk up to them and say, "Micechat?" Chances are they'll automatically say yes and spend some time chatting with you!

I always seem to see MiceChatters whether they are having fun or working. I usually give the "How's it going" nod, but if I'm good friends with them quite often we'll end up hanging out for a little while.

Heh, I'm pretty incognito when I'm at the parks although I have run into some ex-CMs that occasionally will read or post on the boards and get recognized that way.

Ever since I joined MC, during my past visits to DLR since October I've only recognized maybe 2 micechatters from their trip reports they happen to post here. But I've never said hello. :blush: It's one of those situations where you see someone and think they look familiar but you just keep walking. It wasn't till' much later while waiting around did a lightbulb went off and I realized it was a fellow MCer.

I've got a bit of a twist- before I went to the trick or treat party (and joined Micechat) I already lurked here and read some trip reports. So I already knew a couple people here from reading. Then when I went to the party, I ended up seeing a ton of micechatters (I didn't recognize them, though, lol.) and talking to Dreamer20k. I joined a little while after and realized "OMG!" when I saw the trip report pictures. Haha.

My hubby has threatened to make me wear a bag over my head when at the park so that we can get to point A to point B without saying Hi to anyone. :lol:

I have only been recognized once at a Thanksgiving dinner at the hotel. If you see me in a leather tricorn give a holler or not....

When Russ and I went to the Park on a Sunday specifically to meet the group for the first time, we went to the Hub by the Partners Statue and just waited. There were a few couples chatting, but no big group. We just stood between some benches and basically eavedropped. lol. We could tell some were MC people, but we didn't want to interrupt the conversation. When it eased, we talked to ourselves and mentioned the name of the person we were going to meet. That was heard by one of the couples and introductions ensued. We then chatted with them until all the others began to arrive and we were introduced around.

We highly recommend going to the Park on a Sunday at noon and meeting whoever shows up. It was a lot of fun and we look forward to the next time we are down there!

If you spend enough time on the boards chatting or lurking you start to recognize faces and put screen names with them. Then, when you are in the park and see someone you recognize, just call out their screen name. That's what we did and we now know several people.

It's a very strange experience at first to be walking down Main Street and suddenly see several people you know. Unless you live in the area, that is not usually likely.

I can usually tell who's an MC or not, simply by their demeanor or what there doing. For example if someone is taking alot of pictures and talking about the high brass of Disney or future plans, then odds are its an MC-er. If someone asks "Does the Matterhorn have a basketball hoop inside it?" Then I know there not.

But in terms of appearence, alot of pins and Disney material is usually a good hint.

Even those of us who regrettably can't usually make it to meets (I'm raising my hand) can meet other MCers...sometimes, it's as simple as starting a thread in the appropriate forum and saying, "Hey, I'm going on the __th of ________. Anyone want to meet up?" I've met several awesome MCers that way. Then they may be able to introduce you to other members, if they've met more. Also, there've been one or two occasions when I've recognized someone just from TR photos, though I don't go often enough for that to happen frequently.

People know me from my post so that is how some know me. I have been to a few of the Meets on Sunday and I have met some there. Sorry guys that I haven't been to a meet for a long time been every buzy on Sundays and sometimes my mom dosen't want to go to Disneyland that early on Sundays so that's some reason I haven't been to a meet in a wild.
