  • [Other] Matterhorn refurbish

Our vacation in Feb. continues to be tarnished by yet another refurb. I know, I know the price you pay for going in the off-season. I wasn't that upset about the ROA being down, but they hit me harder with this one!

I just wanted to wallow in my sadness!

I have only been to the park twice (out of my five times) when The Matterhorn hasn't been down. I know how you feel. It seems like this ride is getting more and more unreliable.

I think it was closed for refurb twice this year if that. It was a longer refurb this year but they were replacing some of the track and when they do that they have to extensively test it. Rides breakdown its all apart of life, the CM's hate breakdowns just as much as you trust me.

I love the ride, some don't because it's a "hard ride" on the body, but that's what makes it "like" a bobsled!

The Matterhorn is a very old ride. It does not look like it, but it's probably the oldest coaster in California! 40 years of wear and tear means that it needs more maintenance than most of the other attractions.

Last time I went(first day of the candelight procession, walt's bday), they said it was down because Harold decided to take a bath, so now it smelled like wet yeti in there so they were waiting for him to dry.

50 years--it opened in May 1959. And it's indeed a grandfather: you may or may not know it was the very first modern tubular-steel-track coaster, and by default the oldest.

No but in all seriousness, Harold could use a bit of an upgrade, nothing like Everest, cause I like monsters that work.

From a friend who I talked to on Sunday: The Matterhorn is supposed to be down for refurb twice, I think, in the next 1-2 years.

Don't know which refurb this will happen in, but the mountain is supposed to be getting the proposed new vehicles which will have 6 individual seats, and have locking seat belts. The other refurb is going to be a standard maintenance refurb.

Actually its 50 years old and no Its not the oldest roller coaster in California.
the Giant Dipper in Santa Cruz CA is the oldest in CA Opened in 1924 and hasn't closed yet!
The close second goes to the Giant Dipper in Belmont Park CA and it was
Closed in 1976 and left derelict. Renovated and reopened in 1990 matterhorn is a granddaddy to be sure but only because its the first with tubular steal track but in the world of coasters in general its still a youngster.

                                    June, 14, 1959 actually.

Unless there were soft-openings prior to that.

Don't think the CM's really care about it going down, its a unofficial break time and all you got to do is tell people it's down... If you mean mechanic CM's then yes because they need to get that back up quickly before upper management gets involved.

Rumor is it's going to get new cars in the future, the cars are going to have only three seats however and could raise the height requirement depending on what type of cars they use.
