  • [Review] IASW Holiday is a nightmare- Music clashes with Jingle Bells while AA's remain broken

While I have learned to accept most of the new additions to IASW (excluding America), this holiday season I found that the attraction has been hit hard with even more doses of commercialism that I find a disgrace to the season.

The Mermaids of the South Seas now sing once again, but only with an obnoxious rendition of Part of your World trying to run their voices over. To add insult to injury, the mermaids are hardly moving their mouths at all. The Swiss singer was left broken for days, The russian dancing dolls are broken once again, and the Bells in the Hello Room have lost their ring.

In fact it seems that Disney got the fantastic idea of adding new renditions of their classic Disney tunes for the holiday version of It's A Small World. New Songs include the Unbirthday Song for Alice and a new song for Pinocchio. New keys are included for Cinderella and Aladdin.

However, what the brilliant designers failed to realize was that the songs wouldn't be coordinating with just the Small World theme song, but with Jingle Bells as well. The result is hilarious as Disney Characters fight with the rest of the attraction, trying to get their melody's to be heard over Jingle Bells.

It's obvious that you can get a song to mesh with one other, but not with two. It worked alright with the regular version, but not at all with the Holiday version.

The Volume's are horrendous, with Part of Your World literally stomping on the poor mermaids who have just gotten their parts back.

On top of it, the beautiful lighted canopy for the South America room has been altered in order to allow for better viewing of the Disney Characters at the end of the room. Lost is the beautiful canopy of lights, and the balance of the sequence, now it looks like something big is missing. Boy is it big, its an entire holiday bell tower.

Tagging It's A Small World with disney characters and songs may have worked while it was just It's A Small World.

But now Disney is trying to coordinate It's A Small World, tagged with Christmas Decor and Song, while holding on to Disney Characters and song. The result is a disaster, It would have been nice to have the Disney designers think that the music of the holidays were more important then slamming their Disney music once again, unfortunately Disney isn't that global minded.

Disney just needs to find a happy balance, like leaving the Disney Music alone for the Holidays while they are already juggling three songs, Small World, Jingle Bells, and Deck the Halls.

Wow. Good thing I've been avoiding that ride.

Your analysis seems legit. I'm shocked Disney kept the music from the movies.

This is a theme fail by far. What does "Part of your World" have to do with jingle bells? [[I could get technical but I don't find it necessary]]

Maybe I'm just more sensitive to music because I've been doing band. But my analysis is based on four rides on three different days (2 on the same day).

The music is either something you notice, or you don't notice, I was with a friend who hadn't ridden Small World this way since this was her second time to the park and she definately noticed it.

I just can't believe the product placement. Steven Seagal energy drinks in the some of the dolls hands. Amazing.

being involved in music defiantly has something to do with it...haha since you put it that way its understandable for the errors to be more out in the open to you.

will the bell tower and lights in Mexico return next year? that's the best part of the ride.

personally the America room was better blank.
and I think in one room, I smelt candy canes.

One tower is still there, but the whole festive canopy set up as been lost unfortunately.

I agree with Walt a little here. The songs were a little distracting with the new small world/jingle bells track. It sounds much better as the traditional ride.

I loved the tunnel of lights/canopy in the Mexico-South America room. shame it's not there this year.

Why is this thread rated one star? Everything he said is true. Somebody hearing something they don't want to hear? Reality.

I love riding Small World this time of year. I go to enjoy it, not to analyze it. I think the music works fine. The only character song that really sticks out is for Cinderella. The rest I can hardly notice. But again, I am just enjoying it all, not looking for flaws.

I agree completely. I rode it back on Thanksgiving weekend and the Disney tunes just didn't mesh. Not all of them are the greatest for regular iasw, but at least they aren't too jarring. The holiday ones, on the other hand, just sound like something is wrong.

I still love iasw dearly, and honestly forget about most of the characters now. However, when something feels wrong with the music, it's like a slap in the face. It doesn't matter if you're looking for it.

I have been riding the attraction two or three times per week since it has opened and have not noticed a problem with any of the counter melodies. In fact, I noticed that they rerecorded several new tracks to counter melody Jingle Bells such as the Merry Unbirthday song for Alice (compared to the regular "in the golden afternoon" counter melody they play in the regular version.) Also, out of the 14 or 15 times I have ridden SWH this season I have not once noticed Part of Your World being played over the Mermaids. I see no reason to complain about any of the audio but that is from my own experience ove the past month of riding the ride weekly. In fact I am impressed that they took the time to record the new counter melodies for the holiday tracks. Also, the bells in the first room where ringing yesterday and on Monday when I went through the attraction around 2 o'clock on both days.

I will give you that some of the maintenance of Dolls has been lacking. If there is anything worth complaining about how about the fact no new track was created for the America room and the decorations in the room where tacky and uninspired.

Walt you stumbled on a secret, Disney has recently been reprogramming the various characters in order to debut the It's a Small World Miley Cyrus Holiday Extravaganza... which is why everything sounded "off" because they are in the process of dubbing Miley's version of Jingle Bells which features backup singing from the Jonas Brothers.
