  • Trip Report Coffee Rant

These past couple of weeks I really have noticed something at the parks, the slow pace at which the bakeries make the speciality coffees (lattes etc). Going to the resort take A LOT of energy. You have to wake up early to get to the park, deal with kids, sit in traffic, and walk far distances. People need their coffee. I have never been to a place that makes these drinks as slow as the disneyland resort. The bakeries at both resorts have lines that can be around an hour at "rush" coffee time (morning and night). The staff should know that in the morning people are going to line up for their morning pick me up and cookie. They should prepare for the firework rush, because parents need that coffee to get them through the long drive ahead as they prepare to leave the park. Around fireworks time the coffee cart near the castle has a line that is around 45 minutes. The cart is usually staffed by as little as 1 worker, even during the rush times. What gets me is that we are paying Starbucks prices (4 dollars for a vanilla latte ) for an inferior product. Inferior as far as taste and connivence. What a money making opportunity Disney has if they could deliver the same product at the same price, but at the speed which Starbucks does. When waiting in line I noticed many people getting out of line after 15 minutes of standing in the same spot. I know there are talks about how they are going to have Starbucks coffee being brewed inside the park, but I hope that we not only get the Starbucks coffee but the speed and reliability which comes with the brand.
As you can see, I get very cranky without my nonfat sugar free vanilla latte.

Agreed, also the coffee tastes like crap.
I've tried every variation of "special drinks" and they're all disgusting.
Last I heard Disney is still trying to get Starbucks into Disneyland. Don't know what the status on that is, but if it happens I will be so much happier.
I need coffee to not fall asleep on the drive home... I'd at least like to enjoy what I'm drinking.
Gas stations have superior coffee than Disneyland.

Iced Mochas at the Burrrbank Train thing are just OK. They should be at McDonald's prices, not Starbucks.

Normally takes about 3 mins, but one time it took well over 30 mins. They served everyone behind us and skipped us for some reason. Ergh!!

Quite simply, the CM's don't feel your pain, and therefore work at a pace that pleases them.

How about voicing your opinion and letting the CM know the issue.

A lot of times it will be a teen working for some extra spending cash. I think they could care less about your convenience, and this holds true for the other vendors inside the park (ie Gibson Girl)

Yeah last night was BRUTAL, we watched the light parade and kind of have our little traditions of things we get. Usually Ice Cream and Hot Chocolates from the little zephyr place there. Ice Cream no problem, but the drinks...the line was brutally long. So I took the IC back to the family and sought out another HC location. Of course their juice/coffee/hot choco stand place there in the Backlot was closed, so it was stand in line at the wiener place, only 2 windows working. 35 minutes later, I had 4 hot chocolates.

I really hope they make the switch over to Starbucks soon... I don't even bother with coffee at the parks.

In the mean time, grab the coffee BEFORE you hit the park, either at that shop by compass books in DTD or in the Starbucks on Ball and Harbor. They'll let you bring it in and you're all set to go. I think you'll find that the wait time in the bakery is about the same as in Starbucks. It's just that Starbucks generally doesn't have a line of 30 people waiting before you get to the register.

I agree that the coffee in the park isn't the greatest but I'm not a big fan of starbucks. I would prefer Coffee Bean or Peets etc... Although I am not convinced new coffee product will help the wait times.

I don't care what brand they have in the parks as long as the company can train the employees/install better equipment in order to get the product to the customer faster.

If you go during "rush hour", forget it, you'll be lucky to get your drink 45 mins after paying for it!!

I find the coffee cart in DCA much better- it was out of the way, no one could see it with the construction walls, and I was the first and only person in line.

If Disneyland had Starbucks inside, that would be amazing!!

Starbucks is not coming to the parks. The new coffee contract was given to a company called Joffrey's. This is the coffee that is now being served. Starbucks will not be coming to the park.

Even if the lines weren't ridiculous, I'd be hard pressed to drink that swill they try to pass off as coffee. It's never very good.

There is real problem with consistency as well. The coffee at the Market House is awful compared to the coffee at the Blue Ribbon Bakery. The coffee at the Plaza inn in dishwater, but still better than the swill served up accross the hub at the cart near Carnation Gardens. the stuff at the Riverbelle Terrace is marginally tolerable, yet the Blue Bayou's is okay. But here's the thing. It's all the same coffee! all from the smae vendor, all supposed to be prepared the same way. This is one area where uniformity has gone completely out the window.
As for service issues, I find the Blue ribbon bakery to generally be understaffed with unused registers at all times of the day. I see those people as being as overworked as any in the park.

Im not a fan of Disney coffee or Starbucks(I like Gloia Jeans, but everyone has their fav and Disney can't have every coffee company in the parks. It would be nice if they had two companies.

Anyhow, how i deal with the lines is bring coffee in a thrums from home. And then buy coffee before the rush and put it in the thrums for later. The thrums I use holds coffee hot for three hours. This doesn't fix the long line problem, but its an alternative if anyone wants to do it.

I'm really glad I'm not dependent on a beverage that would cause such reactions in me when it was difficult to get.

I've never experienced such issues getting beverages in the park. Of course I hate their coffee so i won't buy it there. I normally bring my travel mug filled with coffee for the ride there. On the way home we just stop and mcdonalds and get drinks. Other than that it's not hard to get water or soda quickly in the parks.
