  • LUMINARIA Anyone ever see it

Hey Guys wondering if any of you all ever watched Luminaria over at DCA when it was there, would you be able to tell me a little about it and does anyone know why it has not returned?:ap:

Hooboy.... Luminaria.... well let's see.... the sappy music was totally unmemorable, the low level pyro sent tons and tons of smoke into the crowd (especially on the bridge).... candles came out of the water a la Phantom of the Opera... yuck. It was just boring and unimpressive. The only memorable part of it was the danger you felt when a shell went off -- kids were scared they were going to be set on fire. There's actually some reviews that Al and Sue did that are probably still up on mouseplanet. Neither of them liked it.

Oh, our friend Al saw it, long ago.
Wow! It's been THAT long ago?!

On the plus side, we learned that DCA was not really fireworks compatable.

Rumors hit that '04 might have brought another lagoon show. However, that never happened.

HAHAHAHAH I just re-read that review. It is so classic Al.

Sue's review is great too, but there are some freakin hilarious lines in that one.

I'll be the devil's advocate here and say that I enjoyed it. I'll agree about the music not being memorable, but I never saw a problem with the smoke. It was actually pretty exciting to be so close to the pyro and the candles appearing out of the water were pretty cool to me.

No, the show wasn't great. Nor was it up to "Disney fanboy" standards, but it was better than nothing. I would love to see them try to do something else over there on the lagoon. Especially for the holidays.

I think LUMINARIA was a valient attempt to bring something interesting to Paradise Bay, but it wasn't that good. The music competed with other music around the park, like the bands on the wharf, and the smoke from the fireworks completely drowned out the audience.

Too bad - a night time show there would still be a good idea!

Too bad the Execs were so worried about cutting costs to not install fountains and other things for a show when they built the lake......

How come the smoke from fantasmic doesn't do that?

Fantasmic! uses a different type of fireworks, and ends up being higher in the sky than the low-level ones used in Luminaria. There are restrictions on fireworks at DCA in regards to how close they are to housing.

Hmmm... I'm sure they could figure something out eventually....

It does, a little... I think there is less pyro though in Fantasmic. Most of it is small stuff till the finale. When Mickey does his final act, it gets a little smokey. Lots of it drifts off towards the island too.

The smoke from Luminaria started at the beginning with people encircling the lake. So there was always some area that would get totally hit with it.

                      (Also, see Darkbeer's post above).
