  • [Question] New Orleans Mystery Symbol

Sorry I don't have a picture, but outside and across from the New Orleans Square bathrooms (by the train station / portrait painting) there is a oval'ish metal symbol that appears about a foot above door height on the building. The symbol looks old and has a snake on it . . .I think.

Does anyone know what this mystery symbol is all about?

    A picture would probably help.

Agreed. Unfortunately I was out of batteries when we were in that area. If anyone is waiting for their significant other at those bathrooms and wants to post a picture here for me, that'd be cool.

Could you maybe draw a rough sketch in MSPaint & post it here?

Here is one of the marks.

We are going back in time.
When you have private enterprise fire Department.
Each department have there mark. That you have fire protection with that department or you pay to Fire Insurance.

Also there is mark for a water pipe in the street.
Dig up the street and get the water hook to the pump.

Don't have my books in front of me, but it is a fire department symbol. Can't remember the details of what it signifies--Insured?? Hose nearby??--, but they are common in the French Quarter.

I can probably let you know later this evening.

EDIT: Whoops! Didn't see AKFANDISNEY's post!

That explains this at Cafe Orleans:

It says Disneyland Fire Dept. on the bottom.

Nice detail! Looks like they forgot nothing here.

On a side note, I love the quote from the opening of NoS:

Mayor of New Orleans: "Wow! It looks just like the French Quarter!"
Walt: "Yeah, except mine is cleaner."

Just think... if NOS had been built in DCA we either A)wouldn't have these details or B) have characters plastered all over them!
