  • [Question] Matterhorn refurbishing

I'm taking someone to Disneyland for their first trip in the first week of march. it's wednesday-saturday.

I went looking at the Disneyland official website for closures and saw that the Matterhorn was listed as being closed that whole time. Last year the Matterhorn was closed for 3 weeks during the "off season" but it was still up and running on the weekends. Does anyone remember in years past if the Matterhorn would typically open on weekends but stay closed during the week during refurbishments?

    Re: Matterhorn refurbishing

My think is that River of American will be close for long time.
    open some time May.

Disneyland do not like a lot Attraction close at same time.
but I like see the refurbishing and keep the Attraction Safe.

Feb, march is most time matterhorm
Most of the time when Matterhorn Refurbishing is close the Whole three weeks.

There's still a rumor that the Matterhorn may go down twice this year and get the new bobsleds, but I doubt that would happen in this refurb.

Recently the Matterhorn has been operating on a weekday refurb schedule.

        It'll be closed Monday-Thurs and opened Fri-Sun.

Over at WDW, they rejoice when any attraction goes down for refurb, and for a good reason. TDO regularly neglects them.

I asked a cast member who worked the Matterhorn station about the bobsleds during the summer. She scoffed at me and said it would be 2 years before they would be installed.

^ I don't remember where I saw the picture, but basically the new sleds have 4 individual seats now, two in the front half of the train and two in the back, which means no more lap sitting!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the official Disneyland website shows it down completely, not open weekends.

                              Calendar

Last year during my trip was when they did the closed M-F open weekends but the website reflected that. Sadly I would not expect the ride to be open for your trip.

I'm actually rather thankful that they're implementing the new individual seat system. I go tend to wind up sitting with the tallest people in my group...not exactly the most comfortable for someone who is 6'1".

I rather enjoyed the lap sitting. It felt cozier to me, but then again I'm ony 5'8". Is the tightness of the bobsleds the reason why they're thinking about the 4-seater ones?

I hope it'll be open on the weekends during it's refurbishment, because I'm taking my best friend to the Resort in February and I would like for him to get to ride it, but if it's not open, then there's still plenty of things for my friend to sink his teeth into, price of going in the offseason.

That's because there are no more closed days during the week, no more off-season...guess what, people...these attractions still need to be updated and maintained. They have to be closed, in order for that to be done.

It used to be much easier to schedule these, I'm sure, because in the days of old there were clearly defined off seasons, and DL was closed two days a week during this time.

This, of course, no longer exists...but the attractions still need to be maintained. Sometimes the refurbs might take as long as a year, which would mean yes, they'd be closed in the summer.

I wonder how these new bobsled seats will be for tall guys like me. As it was, I had to get down as low as possible in the back to avoid decapitation.

                                        From ScreamScape:
Matterhorn w/ New Cars - In Development - (10/3/08) The latest rumor on the proposed new Matterhorn cars claims that any plans to retire the current trains in favor of a new fleet will have to wait until at least 2011 at this point, as it was not approved for the next year’s budget.
