  • Totally Minnie?

    Hey guys

Just an enquiry really - watching some home movie DVDs of DL that my dad had ordered online I saw a parade from 1986 called 'Totally Minnie' and was quite surprised at the very low budget compared to more contemporary parades.
The floats were quite uninventive and I think one highlight was even a curtain rail being pushed along by some CMs in time to the music.

Can anyone else remember this parade and stupid q potentially but why were they celebrating Minnie in 1986? Anniversary of some sort?

Yeah! I remember that. Only bits and pieces of it. More of the song that went with it. It was like a "happy girl, Tiffany-esk" 80's pop song.

probably based off of a tv special from the 80's that I saw probably 100 times growing up- I had Minnie showing the guy from "Revenge of the Nerds" how to get a date with Suzanne Somers. Plus it had a kind of cool video of an animated minnie singing "Don't go breakin' my heart" with Elton John- Ah- a blast from the past!

I don't remember the parade, but I *totally* remember the TV special I still have my totally Minnie earrings sitting in my jewlery box.

As to why they were celebrating Minnie, like I said, there was the TV show, which in itself was to cash in on the whole "Valley Girl" trend during the day. I remember Minnie having a valley girl accent. I think they did the same to Mickey, who had a Miami Vice (or should I say, "mouse") style going on for a while.

Man- I had totally minnie EVERYTHING! There was a period in the 80's when you couldn't find anything with Minnie Mouse on it that didn't look like it came from Debbie Gibson's closet!

Oh man. I even have photos from that parade. I should scan 'em.

Anyway, I was an avid fan of Totally Minnie.

I remember parts of the song too:

            Minnie
            Talkin' 'bout Minnie
            When she flashes those lashes
(something, something, something - yeah, ok, I can't remember it all)
Who else could it be, but Minnie Mouse!

Now, I have this sudden urge to wear a pastel hair bow and crimp my hair.....

Totally Minnie came out when i was like five years old! My parents bought me the record and I used to pretend to jazzercise in the living room. The songs were infectiously catchy! I believe I still have the record stowed somewhere. I even had Totally Minnie garb.

I don't remember the parade being cheap at all, though it probably was. I have memories of dancing from the curb. When you are a child as Disneyland almost everything is perfection.

BTW, has anyone ever listened to Mickey's Rock Around the Clock? ...Not sure about the title... It was a cassette which came out at about the same time and had lots of Disney rendition sock hop favorites on it. It was also one of my treasured cassettes, probably spawned from the Blast From the Past parade.

Wow thanx everyone - can now understand the phenomenon that was the parade - it seemed very popular from the size of the crowds and the tie-in with a TV show makes sense. Incidentally there was also a show called 'Fantasy Follies' in Carnation Plaza Gardens (I think) and it had musical numbers from the 50s way up 'to date in the 80s'! Cue the legwarmers and the huge pastel bows and the Valley Girl-Miami Mouse vibe was apparent!

I remember the parade and I have some photo's somewhere. It was Disney's attempt to bring Minnie into the 80's. You know, the independant 80's chick. Like Disneyphile, I should get those scanned sometime.

At least it had Roger Rabbit in it!!!

What does everyone think of the "Hello Minnie" merchandise? (Hello Kitty, but with Minnie)

Fantasy Follies was terrible! I mean, it was okay at first, but it ran for waay too long!

I had the Totally Minnie record album. I was eight years old and thought it was the coolest thing!

Hmm.. could this have been the inspiration for "Mickey Mania" that happened in the early 90s at WDW...

(didn't they show totally Minnie a while ago like 6:00a.m.
