To answer your question, my favorite attraction is Fantasmic! if it counts. If not Splash Mountain.

I think it important to separate "personal favorite" from "all around best attraction".
For example, my personal favorite at DCA is ToT. However, it has a height requirement, and is way too thrilling for many..... I can't see my 85 y/o grandma or 3 y/o neice getting on ToT and having a good time.
For DCA, I think the best overall attraction is Soarin'.... Kind of concerning... An attrraction built on a cement slab in an unthemed, intentionally ugly, off-the-shelf, pre-engineered steel building..... and it's DCA's best overall.... really shows how poor.. Nevermind.
For Disneyland's overall best attraction, I have to agree with the Mad Hatter that PotC is the best. It may not be the favorite ride of the teen and twenthy-somethings, but their favorite ride is not going to be the favorite of the elementary school or nursing home set. There is no ride that will be "the favorite ride" of everyone in the park.
PotC is highly likeable by all, from 3 to 93. Highly themed, with rich details, and one of the few rides you're frequently on longer than you're in line for it. I think it transports (the vast majority of) people into a land of their imagination that they just can't experience ANYWHERE except in a Disney theme park.
I think PotC is the embodyment of why DL can sell tickets for $53 without discount and still fill the park above capaity. Other parks may list a similar price, but are forced to offer discounts in abundance.

This is exactly the type of ride I was referring to with my comments about "personal favorite" vs. "best overall".
Indy is probably the personal favorite of the most number of people.... But with height and physical condition requirements combined with being too jerky and thrillig for many, I think it can't be considered "the best attraction".

Indy is definitely up there on my list. For me it's:
1)POTC
2)HM
3)Indy
I say that just because Indy was based on a movie and cannot stand on it's own as a creative masterpeice.

Mahsqueeze me? Indy cant stand up to its own creative masterpiece? Down with the Mad Hatter I say! The only and I mean ONLY thing wrong with the ride is that its not Harrison Ford's voice. But THAT IS IT! Way to start a debate! :Insert smiley w/ hat and whip here:Anyone up for a Colorado Micechatters meet-up?

POTC and HM were totally original rides that nobody had ever thought of or heard of before. I don't think it took as much imagination/passion to create Indy as compared to POTC/HM.

I agree with you to a point. Sure, it is a ride based on a movie, and its been god knows how long since the imagineers, I mean Eisner has come up with an origional idea...BUT this is a good thing for Indy fans like me who want to be involved in something thats even remotely involved with Indy  . Also, it is an origional story, expanding to the already awesomely sweet Indy universe!

Had you stated "My favorite attraction is PotC" you would have clearly been stating that your own personal subjective criteria was used.
However, you stated "the best" rather than "your favorite". "The best" implies some non-subjective standard is to be used. Okay, okay... many lawsuits have been filed when one campany has claimed their product is "best", and the courts have always ruled that "best" can nave many criteria.... Yet, there always has to be some criteria...
Anyway, I think the best criteria for stating "the best attraction" is overall guest satisfaction. Someone under 46" and someone with a bad back are not going to give a ride that they can't get on very high marks.... This brings down the overall satisfaction.
For most pleasing to the most number of people, I think PotC is "the best".
As far as pirates and mansion are concerned.... Rather than being pulled from one source, they were pulled from dozens, but that does not mean they were not pulled from other sources. There is nothing "original" about pirates or ghost themes. They are/were very popular themes in popular culture.

I said 'the best' to get people going to say 'no, the best ride is obviously [insert favorite ride here], because....'.
Your argument about people under 46" is moot because they are obviously a small minority and more than likely young enough not to know the difference anyways. And with your criteria only a few select rides can be chosen. You can't exclude rides from being the best just because certain people can't ride the ride.
Would you agree that SM is probably the 'best' coaster in the park according to alot of people? You couldn't agree because you'd have to say Gadget's GoCoaster because smaller people can't ride SM.

Gadgets would be given an "F" by a lot of people that find it too boring, draggin down its overall score. Indy is given an "F" by a lot of people with kids, with health conditions, or that don't like being bounced around.
I think Pirates is "the best attraction" because there is no large group of people that would give it an "F". Teens may give it a C for not being thrilling enough.
Let's try it this way:
........................Indy..Gadget's..Pirates
Kids under 46"......F........B............B
Teens.................A........F............C
Adults no kids......A........F............B
Adults w/ kids......C........B............A
Adults w/ issues...F........F............A
Elderly................F........F............A
GPA:.................1.6.....0.6.........3.33
Now, you could weight it and say that teens are twice as important as adults with heath or thrill issues and 4 times as important as elderly... That would bring the scores much closer.....
....but I think Pirates is still the ride with the most appeal to the most number of people.
However, to give you what you were looking for.....
No freakin' way... You're out of your mind. Haunted Mansion Holiday is by far the best attraction in the resort (for the 3 months a year it is there)!!!!
better?
