  • Is Big Thunder Railroad still down?

Last time I was in the park in the fall, it was right after the second accident and it was closed...again.

Anyword on this reopening? If not to connect to the other thread about this area, this like Tommorrowland is one of those areas that needs a massive overhaul and good rethinking.

It's open, but just like all the rides, it breaks down occassionally, did last time I was there....big disappointment for my daughter, her favorite ride!
Mom, remember, it's not what a person is like on the outside that counts,
it's what they are like in their HEART!

Funny I get called a pessimist by Modhatter... and others post like this.

FYI, the problem that BTR had could occur on ANY coaster type at ANY amusement park. Infact it is more likely to happen at none Disney parks because most of the time their rides are just up to code (which by DOSH standard really are not that high). In addition its second and third incidents were NOT related to the first one... so again... FREAK ACCIDENT comes into mind.

                Sort-of.. not really.

When the fatality occured, the ride was shut down for months and the operators transferred to work on other attractions. When BTMRR came back into operation, rather than bringing back the operators that were no experienced on other attractions, NEW operators were brought in.

The inexperience of the new operators is what caused the additional incidents. MINOR to say the least. One when operating in a manual override mode that is NEVER done when guests present, and the other resulting in a 5 MPH "bump" of trains that could not possibly cuase major injury.

Sort of related to the initial accident, but not even close to the same type of incident.

I was working as a cast member doing crowd control when it went down with quote on quote not fatal accident two years ago. Funny how no fatalities are actually reported on property since all DOAs are declared on Anaheim property. Weird.

Point is I was just seeing it had been brough back online. If so I think this more than Pirates or Mansion needs some improvements to animatronics.

If not for the first accident, we probably never would have heard of the second and third accidents. The media just couldn't resist the "OMG Another BTRR Accident!" headlines.

if OSHA says it's ok... I suppose that it's ok with me. The attraction has been operational and run without incident for well over 4 months now... let's keep fingers crossed.

I love the death train! Ask Stitch in Innoventions about it.

Us-We are going on Big Thunder next.
Stitch-Is that the ride where everyone goes, "Oh my god I hope I don't die AAAAH!"?

I trust Matt is going to keep up the maintinance on the ride. The reason it crashed was because of the budget problem that was left over from the previous management.

I do too, I just think that it was funny that, on a ride that had had no major accidents (besides the kid losing his foot) that there were three accidents in a year.

I realize now that what I said earlier was a little ambiguous. But I was refering to the fact the the first accident was due to a mechanical error while the others were not due to the same error. But you are very correct on every point you brought up.
