  • [Fun] Would you exchange no Tomorrowland for three years for a new Tomorrowland?

Just a fun, completely hypothetical question...

If given the option to completely close Tomorrowland (yes, everything including Space Mountain and the-not-even-open Star Tours II) for three years, then reopen it in late 2013 as a completely new and updated land, would you do it?

For the sake of this question:
    • Huge walls go up, including around the monorail and railroad, so you have no idea what is happening.
    • Disney does not release concept art or any other information (basically it would be a complete mystery for those three years).
    • Almost everything is demolished and rebuilt (with the obvious exceptions), so it is not just a paint job.
    • When it does open, it is a significant improvement over what exists today!
    So, is it worth it?

(Please don't reply with "well, you wouldn't need to do this...you could close just different parts of Tomorrowland while other parts are being redone..." That's not as much fun!)

Not really, I plan on going to California next year.

I think the OP is forgetting about people who may only go to Disneyland once in a lifetime and it would really be a letdown to have a whole section of it closed down. I know I'd be pretty upset to not be able to experience it.

I didn't forget, that's one thing that makes this a hard (and fun) question!

Yes, I would in a heart beat. Space Mountain is good but it's not hard to top which is what I would look forward to in 2013 most.

Re: Would you exchange no Tomorrowland for three years for a new Tomorrowland?

Very interesting question! Among the most thought-provoking threads I've seen on here in a while. I'm gonna tentatively say yes, though it would be hard to go that long without Space Mountain. But when I was young, there was always a lot of time between visits to the park, and it just made me appreciate it all the more. And the prospect of a truly amazingly futuristic Tomorrowland is enough to make me salivate!

Regarding the issue of infrequent visitors missing out...that's true, that would be an unfortunate result of all this. I suppose you just have balance that with the many more infrequent visitors who'd get to have a way better experience after those three years were done. Also, keep in mind that if they've never been, they won't know what they're missing out on, and there's still PLENTY to do in the rest of the resort if you shut down Tomorrowland.

Thanks for posting this thread, readandburn!

Question is what is original and what isn't in Disneyland;s Tommorowland, only thing I know of is Space Mountain.

                  This.

Those of us who were major fans of TL'55/'59 nearly had quintuple anxiety attacks waiting for the walls to come down during the construction of TL'67.

But when they finally did, it blew everybody away.

I think I would accept the closure of TL if it meant a completely new TL.

I seem to recall almost ALL of Fantasyland was closed for the refurb in the mid-80's........

Interesting question. I would vote yes! I'd LOVE for TL to be the vibrant, dynamic, tomorrow-oriented place that it could be. I think it fails in that mission now.

I hear ya, but I don't think that in its current state that visitors would be missing much to be denied access. And I too am one of those infrequent, every-couple-of-years visitors.

By "original" do you mean class of 1955? The only one I can think of is Autopia.

I would... as long as by a "re-do" you don't mean TL98 Style

and you wouldn't need walls around the monorail, cause that would be closed too, no? Just by the Matterhorn area, and voila! everything is closed off. Tomorrowland is one of the easiest lands to close for construction, only two entrances/exits (not including train/monorail)

YES, if it is done right and worthy of a 3 year closure.....

No, if it means more innovention type attractions and depressing color schemes.....

As an infrequent visitor i'd welcome the closure if its for my future benefit

I say yes, since Hypothetically you are promising that the brand new Tomorrowland will be superb.
