While I wasn't a "fan" of SSL by any stretch of the imagination, I was sad to see it close, if only because DCA had so few attractions that even SSL was better than nothing. Now it's good to see that something is finally being done in there, maybe a new restaurant will fill the old Hollywood and Dine too.

Of course, nobody really knows if it will be a hit, but I believe that the current team could make it work.
Bear in mind, one of the major keys to their success so far has been based on throwing money at things. Which is apparently the opposite of the approach they are taking with SML. It sounds like a deliberately temporary attraction to keep the 50th celebration going come January, but not so expensive that they will feel the money was wasted, once they tear it down to imrpove that north side of HPB.

Does anyone have pics of the construction walls or anything? I'm really curious what's going on over there.

My rumor mill said it was being discussed using the TDL Pooh technology. That would be a "wow" and expensive, but not obscene. It sounds more believeable that they would do an overlay on the existing system just to get something back open.

The other thing is that everyone sees all of this as all Matt's doing. True enough, he is the lone and true champion operator of quality and good show, but only plays a part in what gets funded and executed. It does not hurt to know that Eisner is fighting for his corporate life, there have been deaths and the parks need to show improvement to stave off Roy and Wall Street's expectations. A click or two above Matt, we're talking Michael's "legacy" here. They had no choice but to clean the place up and show a turnaround or just keep killing people. Matt came along at a crucial time and to Jay and Michael's credit they picked him wisely. He is THE guy to save the place. His work on Cruise line speaks for itself. Compared to Pressler, Matt has parted the Rivers of America and is leading the guests to the "painted land".

          Good thing I don't exaggerate.

Thanks! But I was halfway expecting big walls that covered the entire facade. Hmmmm.

I rode SSL twice, the second time only because my friend hadn't been on it yet. That ride was truly the most uncomfortable experience I'd ever had at the parks. I felt actually embarrassed and humiliated, as if that mess was my own blunder. We couldn't even believe we were in a Disney park! Shameful.

Hard to imagine a ride that actually 'diminishes' the park experience as a whole.

Let's wish Matt and Co. the best...

Good Finally!! That was such a terrible ride that had nothing to do with Disney. I went on it when the park opened and was disgusted! I'm looking forward to the MI overlay, even if it is an overlay, I'll be a happy camper!

Now that we got rid of one can we get rid of Millionaire? That thing is so lame

                      Video?

Although I am excited about a new attraction coming in DCA, I am still curious about SSL. I went on it a couple of times years ago and don't remember that much of it. I just listened to the audio from the attraction through another thread here and I was wondering if anyone had any video or pictures of the inside? I would love to see it again. Thanks!

Hey people, I heard a rumer recently that Monster's Inc. Makeover for SSL was scrapted. Instead, Roy Disney is converting SSL over for Michael Eisner's personal Dungeon!!!!

You know, I regretted never going on that ride until I watched an on-ride video.

why couldnt they have improved it? ITs probably the ride that had the most to do with california then any other in that whole park, with a few exceptions. WHAT, tell me, WHAT does Monsters Inc have to do with California? Or Hollywood? IT takes place in an "alternate dimension" that the monsters access thru closet doors.

                              While

SSL Took you past scenes of california landmarks. Sure, it was hellof cheap, but maybe they could have refurbished it and re-named it STAR Limo service or something. Monsters Inc really has nothing to do with california NOR hollywood(Pictures backlot). It would fit more in toontown then DCA.

See, that's one of the reasons I'd like to see Toon Town torn out... Imagine HPB split into two, LA/Hollywood, and the Disney Studios. Then you could turn SSL into Benny the Cab's drive through Toon Town, and see where the Disney stars relax after a hard day at the studio. Then take out Muppets and Millionaire for the Disney Movie Ride to take us through Disney live-action films. So, use the eastern wall of Animation and continue that line going north. That contains the Studio portion. Then Hollywood and Dine, Hyperion, and ToT become a Golden Age of Hollywood Blvd.

Just because the execution of the land, and SSL in particular, left a LOT to be desired, I'd definitely agree that Monsters will just be throwing good money after bad and not leaving DCA any better off.

One of my friends just went to WDI recently, and saw the Monsters Inc props, and thought it was quite amazing! That and the huge model for the 50th exhibit that will be displayed!
