  • [Question] What is being done with DCA's tile mural?

Surely it's being carefully dismantled and not demolished. I mean, I've always hated it in concept and execution, but it is a substantial work of art and a huge acheivement for the artists. Is it being returned to them? Mothballed for future use? Sold in pieces a la the ELP lights? Anyone know anything?

Because of the lead content of the dyes and paints in the tiles, they are disposing of them in accordance with California Hazardous Materials laws. This is also the reason for the large tarps covering them as they remove them... to keep dust from spreading around and getting where guests are.

Our revels now are ended. These our actors, As I foretold you, were all spirits and Are melted into air, into thin air: And, like the baseless fabric of this vision, The cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, The solemn temples, the great globe itself, Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff As dreams are made on, and our little life Is rounded with a sleep. mycroft16 on Twitter

Hopefully the artists get some part of it, I agree with the OP, I didn't "like" it, but it was a big piece of art..

Well! Out of sight, out of mind!

I love the tags in this: dca, good riddance, tile mural.
I don't know what they are doing though, I say just blow it up already I want to see Buenua Vista Street.
They aren't the Mary Blair Murals, those were real pieces of art (sorry artists who did the DCA tile murals, I just don't like your work).

I wouldn't be surprised if they come out with a "Limited Edition" commemorative pin with an actual piece of the mural like they did with some other attractions. If Disney can make some money from it they'll do it!

I hated those, too. I hate folk art in general, especially predominantly orange, yellow and brown tiles. Even as a child, I hated the orange tiles on the exterior of my church. (Then I hated the church, but that's another story.)

Except for the fact the mural is covered with cancer causing paint.
