  • [Question] Disneyland Skyway

How come they took this ride out? From what i've seen, it looked fun! Also, when did they take it out? (what year)

    Re: Disneyland Skyway

The Skyway was taken out in 1994 because its operation budget was transferred to Indy.

That. There was an incident where someone sued Disney because he "fell" out of the skyway. Many people feel that was a contributing factor, or the main reason, but it was later proven in court that he "fell" on purpose and as I understand, he was never awarded any money.

I thought it was neat because you were able to go through the matterhorn. Do you think they would ever put in something similar?

Maybe someday but nothing in the near term.

I'd like to see the old Universal avalanche tunnel idea used for the Skyway as it goes thru the Matterhorn:thumbup:

              Re: Disneyland Skyway

The Skyway was an expensive ride to maintain. This caused other attractions to close. When Disney knew they had to stop and save money for the new Indiana Jones Adventure they closed the Skyway. It wasn't because of when a man in his 30's jumped from a bucket and into a tree. In fact, he later admitted he did it on perpose so he could get money from Disney.

                APers are to blame.

                  Just blame Eisner. Saves time.

Some of you are way off here!!! It had nothing to do with Indy at all. It's sad to say that most of the blame was from a health hazard. My sis-in-law works in the Legal department and there were way too many guests (term used very loosely here) spitting from the ride!! Honest... It ruined the magic for so many and created many litigations for the company. Sad but true story!!! Enclosing the cages was thought to be too expensive so they chose to close the attraction.

                        Re: Disneyland Skyway

I was under the impression that it was taken out because there had to be some major maintenance done to the tower inside the Matterhorn which was impossible to do. That is unless wikipedia is lying to me again - which I suppose might be possible.

                          NO KIDD'N!

                          Thank you!

It was all about increasing Legal and Safety issues that weren't an issue in the 50s,60s, 70s, and 80s.

Most theme parks don't have them anymore.

Fortunately Sea World, and the San Diego Zoo continue to run there's.

Dear Peoplemover Fans, If you want to see a new attraction that at least mimics the 1967 Peoplemover in a future Tomorrowland remodel, you need to write to the powers-that-be, and let them know. If you don't - Then the next time Tomorrowland is remodeled, you will see a land barren of any "Peoplemover" type attraction.
