  • [Question] Matterhorn closing for 18 months in January 2011?

This is from Laughing Place (don't worry, I stay loyal to MiceChat lol), and I was wondering if someone could shell out some details and confirm if this is true or not.

So my mom and dad were at the park a few weeks ago. They are Disney fans but not Disney fanatics (like I and my wife/kids are). I have told them the Matterhorn was going to eventually be getting new vehicles. They don't follow this stuff really closely, so when they were in line for the ride, they asked the CM: "so are these the new cars"?

CM: "No, no. These aren't new. But you'd better ride this while you can because in January they are closing it for 18 months."

My mom: "18 months? Really? Is that when they are putting in the new cars?"

CM: "I don't know any of the specifics, all I know is that they told us the ride shuts down in January for 18 months."

I have got to think this CM was either completely out of his mind, misinformed, or pulling my mom's leg. 18 months just seems ridiculous.

    Thoughts???
The reason I posted this here is because that topic got so deep into the forbidden zone of Nara Dreamland and the godawful Matterhorn knockoff they had.

CMs usually aren't the best source for this kind of info, I call BS, 18-days maybe, I might even buy 18-weeks (track & mountain rehab) but 1.5 years? I can't buy that
    Trips coming up:

    May 22-26th
    July 13th-18th
    November 19th-25th

I haven't' heard this as of Jan 10th the Matterhorn is open according to the site. Guess we will have to wait and see as it gets closer unless someone else on here knows.

My thought exactly! Over a year to get the cars on properly?! I don't think so. But 18 months would be like them taking the entire mountain down, and then rebuilding it!

Unless they have to do an entire overhaul on the tracks I really doubt it'd take 18 months to put in new cars. Unless they are DUN DUN DUNNNNNNNN....

          Adding a loop.

From what I've heard, there is wood connecting the steel frame to the plaster/concrete/whatever-you-call-it shell. If rot was a problem, they might have to do lots of work on that, but even then... 18 months?

They could rebuild the entire mountain in that time. Look at what Cars Land is going to get in 24 months.

If they rebuild it, they should do it Northeast near the Motorboat lagoon to get rid of the congestion!

I'd like to believe the CM, but it can't be true. Not yet, anyway.

They should rebuild it over at the Pumba lot with a loop and a really really good hamburger joint at the top.

Maybe they have to reinforce the Tomorrowland side because its sinking into the Sub lagoon.
I'm literally a born Disney fan! I was born at Providence St. Joseph Med Center right across the street from Disney Studios in Burbank. The same hospital where Walt died.
